First, let me say that I am all for forgiving a person when they admit wrong, and take steps towards changing their ways, especially when they are sorry for doing such.

Next, we all know that Belicheck cheated, and goodell gave him some punishment. Was it enough? They just did a poll on that from espn and 71% said no, punishment was not enough by goodell dealing with the patriots.

then, you take in what was said today, and last few days by walsh, faulk running back from rams and guys from espn live. I know that mark schlerth knows what he is talking about, and he saw those tapes that were released. And when he says he has a problem when someone like belicheck lies, dances around the truth, and is arrogant about it. That the way the commissioner punished pacman, henry, other players that violated league rules, the commissioner was indeed harsh.

another columinist said what bothered him, that in the league rules memo that goodell sent out to all players, inside that, goodell said, that the organization will be held more accoutable than players. He even told that to wade wilson when he fined him 33% of this check and suspended him 5 games.

then walsh comes on and says first, due to why it took the nfl so long to iron out a deal, his lawyer said that the nfl and patriots were trying to crucify walsh, even going as far as to question his family and background by sending an fbi agent to interview where he worked etc.

Senator Specter said he wanted to know if the nfl etc threatened walsh etc, and we just found out that in interviews with the commissioner the patriots had their lawyer there. Now, what i was told, the nfl wouldnt do that but they did. goodell said, it was taking so long to get this done, why? Because they were harassing walsh and his lawyers, even walsh lawyer said the patriots threatened walsh.

Now, i am not a brain scientist, but to me, when you want to get at the bottom of something, you dont bring in a lawyer from the team that is under investigation. That was suppose to be only the NFL and commissioner interviewing walsh, not the patriouts or brow beat him.

then we find out that the nfl had no ideal that walsh took notes at the pre super bowl with the rams, and gave it to a offensive coordiantor of the patriots, and that an offensive player was trained to study the tapes, learn the defensive signals and then relay that to offensive coordiantor weis to send in plays to the QB. Then, we find out, and i point out what goodell said on his remarks about punishing the patriots, unless new information is revealed concerning defensive signals, then i feel punishment was served, something along those lines.

Duuh, goodell
1. offensive signals were stolen too not just defensive signals
2. notes were taken at the pre super bowl with rams, duh goodell wake up
3. you said organizations are to be held more accountable than players, but you didnt punish belicheck like you did wade wilson or players, out of your own mouth goodell you condemn yourself
4. just to show how arrogant belicheck is and light the nfl is on him, in a filmed version of belicheck and a ref, the ref warned belicheck to get off the field of play, belicheck even stepped further on the field, like daring the ref, but no flag, why? to me that is partiatiality towards patriots but other head coaches like bill parcells you have fined for being on the field even one time parcells had to threaten his offensive coordianator to get off the field;
5. now walsh reveals that belicheck knew he was cheating, which he stated earlier thats not the way i interpeted the rules, which is out and out lying;
6. when players have lied to goodell he punished them heavy, but belicheck gets away with it.
7. goodell thinks the public is ok with the punishment of patriots, WAKE UP GOODELL THEY ARE NOT, THEY KNOW YOUR TRYING TO COVER UP, AND HIDE THINGS, THATS WHAT PEOPLE ARE MAD ABOUT GOODELL YOU DIDNT PUNISH THE PATRIOTS LIKE YOU DID PLAYERS AND WHAT YOU SAID YOU WOULD DO

you add up all of these things, and something smells,

i hope seriously and i pray every day now that senator specter goes after the patriots, and if he finds out that the nfl harrassed walsh like the lawyers said he did, that specter goes after goodell for trying to cover up, we want and i am speaking for the 71% that did a survey on espn, we want the patriots punished like they should have been, and we want belicheck suspended some games too, at least 6 games or more.

i forgot to add, after spector got through with walsh, and found out more things then the NFL did, namely goodell; the nfl backtracks and tries to cover themselves when they have to interview the jets qb coach that was the coach that walsh gave the pre super bowl notes too,

it seems like to me, the nfl is asking only what they want to ask and trying to cover up;

but other players and coaches goodell comes down on hard,

heck, if the commissioner wanted to be fair, he could review pacman's case, it has been over a year, since he suspended him,

thats my point to a tee, other players or coaches goodell comes down hard, but not on the patriots, why?

I think it comes down to the Pats cheated and were above the curve as far as cheating goes. Goodell and the rest of the owners were/are afraid that when you have a team that's gone 86-26 since 2001 with 3 Super Bowls it's going to comprimise the integrity of the game. And when a team has that type of success despite going 5-11 the season before and with a head coach that went 41-55 before the 2001 season, it looks much worse.

It's obvious to anybody with a reasonably objective mind that Goodell has been trying to brush this off and sweep it under the rug. I refuse to believe he's that stupid to destroy the original evidence. Since the beginning it's been a case of the Pats lying and Goodell trying to blow it off like no big deal while sweeping it under the rug. Then once Specter has gotten involved, it's amazing how many things have been uncovered, like it not being an isolated incident, like it not only dating back to 2006, Matt Walsh, offensive and defensive signals being taped, and as Matt Walsh stated the Pats being able to anticipate about 75% of the teams calls.

I really believe that if this was a much less successful team doing it, they would've been punished MORE. But since the Pats have been so successful, rightfully punishing them would make the NFL look like a sham since 2001.

The Patriots are the "Team of the (whatever you call this decade)". Bellicheck is the NFL's latest "genius". The NFL still signs Goodells' checks.

The same thing is happening in the Patriot's case. They are being coddled by Goodell because they are the NFL's "team" right now. The penalties that were issued to Bellicheck & Co., compared to what they did, and the penalty Wade Wilson was slammed with compared to his "crime" are ludicrous. The punishment should fit the crime....or in the Pats' case, crimes.

No way should Goodell have launched any investigation on his own. It's like the wolf guarding the hen house. Just won't work. As soon as this thing came to light last Sept. after the Jets game, Goodell should have sought the council from an independent source. An objective arbitrator would have been much more thourough, and would not have closed the case until he exhausted all avenues of proof.

This was and is a very serious case. A team in the NFL was caught cheating!!! They've been doing it for the last several years!!! The same years in which they won 3 of 4 Super Bowls!! It challenges the very credibility of the National Football League. What blows me away is that one of the tapes that former Pats video assistant Matt Walsh gave to Goodell, which was also one of the tapes the Pats turned over, was of the Steelers. That year, the Pats beat the Steelers in a hard fought AFC Championship Game to get to one of the Super Bowls they won. Is it just me, or does that not blow at least a small cloud over that win?

They said they didn't think they were doing anything wrong, but told their people not to get caught doing it...:lmao2: That's genius, Bill.

I agree with Senator Spector. Until an Independent Council performs a thourough investigation of its own, and all parties are allowed to speak without impunity, there will always be a cloud over the Patriot's SB seasons.

No, that would be a large cloud.

Jim Nance on NFL Total Acess has give the PATs their excuse. He has called the Boston papers charges made before the SB the X FACTOR that cost them the game.

I do think you are a brain scientist. I am one myself.

Good post and I liked what you said about Goodell being all Matlock and stuff.

Schlereth was bad, but Cris Carter, a HOF WR. Top 10 in every major stat saying "If you gave me that. A down and distance telling me 15 sec ahead what coverage they would play they wouldnt be able to cover me., I'd come back and play in the nfl now."

All I can say is WOWWWWWWWW. Tell Jerry Rice the BEST WR EVER wat coverage they likely would play in a down and distance and he would go from unstoppable to perfect. I mean what else can u say. You have a credible HOF linemen on a SB team and a WR who is HOF worthy saying it, to go along with Greeny and Golic, plus the overwhelming majority of the nation.

Not only that but McGinest and other former Pats players agreeing.

It really shows the leagues true colors. Pacman+Odell Thurman+Henry= the devil, yet Ricky Williams, and the Pats= lets brush it under the rug.

My Problem is Belichek should have been suspended 4 games, Goodell has no problem giving Pacman, Chris Henry, Wade Wilson, Odell Thurman and Tank Johnson time.

Four games? I think it should have been more than that. Not for just cheating, but for lying about it when he was caught.

I see it different. I love this game and it means something to me. Cheating is NOT something I want ruining it.

Not to defend anyone or to choose a side... but I have to think that to this comment, do you really think that other NFL teams are not cheating? It is how long before Emmitt comes along and breaks the single season TD record. And how many times has it been broken since?

Good post. I thought at the time the penalties were dished out that they were too easy on them. The punishment didn't fit the crime. The headcoach should have been suspended four games!

As far as I am concerned, Spy-gate implicates many people on the team, Brady included.. I just don't think a person like Brady could have been totally ignorant of the whole situation.

The only thing that matters to me is that in 8 years time (or so) when they are doing a retrospective on the best teams over the 50 years of the super bowl era that the consensus among the pundits is to drop the patriots lower than one may have otherwise had them on their list.
