My thoughts after 4 weeks

Tony has always been a good QB at selling the play action. What it really comes down to is if the RUN is effective or not. When we are running effectively D has to respect the pass action. In the past opposing D didn't have to respect our RUN.

That was always the problem teams didn't think we'd stick with the run therefore they didn't respect it. The priority of the defenses was always Romo, pinning their ears back and getting to our QB, now we have the best running back (statistically) and debatably the best running O-line in the league, now Romo can be deadly running play-action. He's gonna get a lot more 1 on 1 looks with Dez this year and I think if things stay this way Romo's gonna look better than ever.

I dont hate Dez. I just think he's being exposed for things he doesnt do this yr.

The only thing holding Dez back is Romo's limitations as a passer, two better thrown passes Sunday and Dez easily has 3 TD's and a lot more yds in that game. Last year I counted 7 opportunitys lost for huge plays due to poor passes.. Get Dez a QB with a stronger arm and he's Top 3 in the league..

CJ is a freak and nobody in the league compares to that guy, not ever.. You have an issue with Dez and are probably in total denial about Romo's limitations as a passer.. Your statements about Dez are unfounded...

Simple as this...if Dez Bryant wasn't the top dog for Dallas...then he wouldn't be always receiving double coverage and also leading the Cowboys' receiving bunch.

Great obs, but slow your roll.on the GM Jones love. If I'm not . mistaken he had to be strongly convinced to.draft Fredbeard and Martin. I know he wanted Johnny Football and they were set.to draft Shaker before Pitt drafted him. I'll also go as far as to say, this team was not his vision. Jerry has wanted nothing to do with a run. First offense. He's too busy trying to.sell tickets behind an entertaining passing attack. I'll credit Will and Stephen more. Will for identifying the talent lately and Stephen for talking Jerry down on his initial urges.

The rest are great obs.

Are you referring to Ryan Shaker from Ohio St.?

What?! Then another dumas decision to hire people you have no intention of getting help.from. the fact is he wanted Johnny a d said himself he had to be talked out if it. That's just not business smart pimp.

let me ask you did he draft Johnny Football? or did he just want to draft Johnny Football
.If he wanted to draft Johnny but listened to his council and followed the guide line
of his decision when he created the council. Then what is dumb about making
the right decision?

Johnny a d said himself he had to be talked out if
think about it . Is not Martin the right decision?

I wonder what would have happened if the team had been able to draft the LSU OG in the third round as they actually tried to do?

Very nice OP LM, but I disagree on the Dez comments. True he is no CJ, but who is.
Dez is still near top of the list. If he wasn't doing his routes, selling them even in double coverage, many of those plays, rather run or pass would not have worked.
A WR has many more assignments rather he is or is not the main target.

And the comment about Mo, being gone, not good. Never good to be glad a player is injured and gone. Even if he was demoted to 4th CB, that is still valuable NFL experience that was lost for the year.

Quoted for truth. Plus I recall him running a nice post corner route against a double team. The kid is a beast and the threat of Dez makes the entire passing game go; he virtually guarantees single coverage on the rest on our WRs, TEs, or whoever else we get into a route. That's not too much different than what CJ does for the lions.

Whether Jerry drafted the offensive linemen is debateable, but as the GM, he gets the credit.

I think you should tap the brakes on Dez. Sometimes the gameplan (pounding the defense into submission with the best run blocking line in football) doesn't lend itself well to a WR taking over the game. Hard to do that when you're rushing for like 6 ypc with ease. You also have to understand that even in "single coverage" most of the time they were still rolling a safety over to his side of the field. Thankfully Romo didn't want to risk those throws against a team like the Saints who can get back into the game in a hurry. When Dez did get true one on one coverage, he beat it easily for a TD.

Im going to openly say that i sold Romo short. The guy has evolved his game to the next stage in his career. Taking what the defense gives you and handing the ball off to Murray. I think Romo has come to terms with his limitations and understands the weapons he has.

Big Romo supporter in the beginning.
I got tired of him throwing costly ints.
Doing a Favre and checking out of a run play.
Not trying to control TOP with ball control.
Got tired of intentional grounding when he needed to be clutch.
Clutch he is not. Yet.

I hold out hope.

But your post and what he is doing now is not a "finally, he gets it, finally, he is doing it". He has done this before.

I will give him a cookie at end of season not after one game... Not after 1/4 of season.

I was absolutely wrong about Graham torching us this game. I thought he would eat us alive but I was dead wrong

Cowboys are one of the youngest teams in the league right now I expect them to only get better as the season progresses. I think the defense is showing good progress and as church said after the 9ers game we realized we were the nail and they were the hammer and we were not going to be the nail again we will be the hammer. I see less hesitation in players they make the reads and are flying to the ball. I think this is one reason this defense has fared as well as they have despite the fact we are not getting sacks. Hopefully that starts to change as well

various:

Romo being limited early may have been best for the team and his self.
It did force us to rely on the running game and that has allowed the team and Romo to see the formula to consistent W's.
Romo did plenty Sunday but it's the first time he opened it up much.
He was just deadly in every way.

Mo is sad. I hope he doesn't turn into Marty B. --A high pick we got right but failed to wait out.
Good news is we've got depth at CB.

The LB corps has been well above expectations.
If they can get through the season without any more major injuries that group has real potential.
McClain is simply a physical throwback player. Dude is big and nasty.

Dez is limited. He's probably limited to being the 2nd best WR in football. lol.

The OL was heavily invested in and it is paying off. Those dudes demoralize people.
Tyron tossed some poor guy about 15 yards with a shove. It was unreal. I can't say I've seen that since Larry Allen.

Game Ball to Bruce Carter. I thought he was the best player on Defense. I hope he can play through the injury and its not too bad. The kid can play when he is used the right way. Kudos to Rod for finding the right spot for him.

I don't really think he's been all that great at it. He really doesn't sell the fake very well most times IMO. I do agree, however, that the key thing is the effectiveness of our running attack. That's what makes it work.

Simply stating that the praise should be spread and not just laid on the lap.of Jerry. Jerry by no means deserves all of the credit. Other teams have a GM, we have GM by committee. I know, I know, other teams have varying voice that influence their perspective GMs, but we're not dealing with a normal GM atmosphere. We're dealing with someone that wants at his core to do it his way, regardless of various input or opinions. Jerry is starving for a chip without Jimmy influence over the team and he's failed miserably going about it his way and still struggles to listen to his counselors. He gets props, but only at at 33% clip along with the other two.

It's funny, though, that people give him 100 percent of the blame.

I think your take is right as far as the credit goes. He has his input and ultimately the final call, but his call is based on the input from the coaches, scouts and even his son.

So whether it's a good decision or a bad decision, it isn't all Jerry. That's why when we were drafting poorly, the need was greater to change those who were giving the input (coaches/scouts) than to get rid of Jerry. The problem, though, is Jerry is the one who makes that call and he hasn't always done it ... holding on to Lacewell far longer than he proved useful, for instance.
