My thoughts (after getting home from the game) ...

Got home too late last night to post so here we go...

1. Orlando Scandrick is very close to being the best player in our secondary. He never gets beat. He never blows his assignment, and quite frankly you rarely ever see him because he's not getting thrown at when he's blanketing his man. I'd rather not see Henry get back on the field.

2. Brad Johnson should never play another game of football again. Not sure if it was apparent from the TV cameras, but guys were running wide open all over the field. We were getting single coverage on TO and RW11 all day long (at different times of course) but the guy couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Brooks Bollinger could not possibly be worse than Brad Johnson.

Oh, and when Tony gets back he's going to have a field day with his new weapon, which leads me to ...

3. Roy Williams (11) is HUGE. He's gotta be the biggest 6'3" receiver I've seen. He plays like he's 6'5". I cannot fathom why he isn't being used more. At one point he was matched up against a linebacker, yet Brad didn't even look his direction. GARRETT, GET HIM THE DAMN BALL! This guy was worth much much more than a 1st and a 3rd. He and Tony are going to set touchdown records in the coming years.

4. The O-line played a helluva game. I was glad to see them get their **** together because they've played miserable football for the past month.

5. When McBriar comes back, can we sign Paulescu for punt coverage?

6. They can claim there was no meaningful difference between playcalling with Stewart and Wade, or whatever, but the difference was like night and day. The blitzes were more exotic, better timed (as in called at better times), and we didn't see the dreaded "soft zone" much at all. Maybe it was just better execution, or maybe it was better communication with the playcaller, but it worked -- it was absolutely dominant.

good stuff

I'm glad Wade decided to "take an active role" in calling his D, which I think is just coach-speak for, "I finally decided to pull my head out my own arse and call a decent game-plan"

Thanks for the info theo.... I've heard from more than one person that WR's were open all over the place.

What will it take for Bollinger to get in the game? Surely they see it on film this week!

What section are you in? We sit in 101 which is the shaded side of the endzone. I knew guys were open but from the way you described it, I feel like I was saved from extreme frustration as far as open receivers is concerned.

Scandrick's a player. Jenkins as well. Dallas needs some corners that play with intensity and fire back there. I've always liked Finnegan (sp?) from the Titans for that very reason.

Was it Polk that cause the fumble on the ST? I

Nice wrapup.

Scandrick did look pretty good. If he gets a few more games under his belt, he's going to be a force. Jenkins doesn't look quite as good yet, but he also doesn't look bad either. I'm hoping we don't see Henry as a starting CB anymore. He's just lost a step and he just looks old.

Brad Johnson looked bad on TV too. Now, we couldn't see the guys running wide open down the field, but the few times where he did throw to an open receiver that was further than 5 yards down the field, he was so off target it was ridiculous.

Roy Williams is going to be a monster once Romo gets back. I'm so excited about the rest of this year and seeing him next year after a full training camp.

I also noticed the difference in blitz timings and the various ways we seemed to attempt to get pressure were different this game. It seemed like we did some delayed blitzes up the middle which were really effective. We also had some really nice safety blitzes which seemed really well timed and highly effective at getting the ball out of Garcia's hands. We need more of that.

This is what I noticed most. I saw the defense moving around and trying to confuse the offense. I had not seen that all year. Blitzes were working well and it looked like that it made the defense more aggressive.

theogt,

I saw one time where Miles Austin was running wide open 30 yards down field with his hand in the air and Brad checked it down.

Then I see Miles laughing about it on the sideline telling someone how open he was.

I can't even imagine how bad it was in person.

And yes Roy Willie is the man like so many of us tried to explain to everyone.

The man couldn't beat out T. Jackson and Gus. I'm not so sure he is the answer. I'm not saying Johnson is the answer either, more like which is the lesser of the 2 evils.

I didn't even see that. Seriously, can Bollinger be any worse? Is it even possible?

That's good to hear about Scandrick. He looked good on TV, but it's really impossible to tell what he's doing away form the ball.

I'd be interested to hear more of your thoughts on #11. How was he away from the ball. Is he blocking? I'm not sold on that one yet.

Surely he can move around better and get the ball further than 5 or 6 yards down the field.

Johnson is going to get MB killed with those check-down passes :bang2:

:laugh2: Bollinger is plenty mobile, and Garrett says he has a live arm

that is the extreme opposite of Brad Johnson, who is a statue w/ a limp noodle for an arm

Excellent warp-up and I couldn't agree more.

The defense looked night and day more effective than they had been.

I just hope that they stick with whatever changes they made this week.

And I'll echo your sentiments:

Brad Johnson can't play.

The guy is mentally and physically incapable of playing quarterback at the NFL level.

This team is shackled with him out there.

The only thing he brings to the table is holding for extra points and field goals.

The rest of the world can clearly see it and hopefully the Dallas coaching staff will too.

Brad Johnson looked like Fred Astaire out there compared to Roethlisberger last night.

...but yeah. He sucks.

Agreed...we were there and have since watched the telecast. BJ was missing the receivers by a MILE. It really didn't come across as dramatically on TV. Overthrowing a lot of the short/middle stuff and (obiously) underthrowing the mid/long stuff. Terrible.

On another note...saw Brooks on TV...looks really skinny.

Good stuff, theo.

I noticed a good bit of soft coverage, though. Moose went on and on about it.

The fact that Bollinger is not in the game speaks volumes to how bad he must be.

I am really excited about our young CB’s. Jenkins and Scandrick should lock down the position for years to come. If Pacman ever gets to play again and we somehow convince him to stop being stupid, he will be an added bonus. Ball looked to be a welcomed surprise yesterday too. I want to stay optimistic about Newman, but I’m starting to think he is reaching the decline of his career. He may only have another 3-4 years left. Heny is done. We cannot rely on him to stay healthy, and even when he was healthy, he was getting burnt.

Brad Johnson needs to retire. He just cannot get it done…he can’t even drive the bus anymore. I agree Bollinger cannot be any worse than Johnson at this point.

I did not understand why everyone was complaining about Wade taking over play calling…that is his niche. Yesterday just confirmed that Stewart doesn’t know what he is doing. Wade needs to be demoted to defensive coordinator and we need to bring in someone else to be the head coach. I think Garrett needs to stay where he is right now.
