I have thumped the table many times about the Clown Show ignoring DT and the consequences of that. I saw a small bit of light when they got Hankins; but I was completely shocked at this.

Now I do have concerns about him, specifically whether he will keep up the effort full game. There were signs of that at Michigan.

But still in a lot of ways he is exactly what this team has needed for some time.

Those obsessed about pass rush need to take a chill pill, NO TEAM has all its D lineman capable of a pass rush. NO ONE.
We have been soft up the middle far too long because of Marinelli's obsession with 'quick twitch' and other garbage.
I have always been surprised that a man that played Guard in college should be so oblivious for so long on the value of really good DTs.
But then Jethro has never really been a football man no matter what he claims.
Now who finally pushed this kind of investment I do not know but I thank him.

IF KC was really after him then I can understand our move; and I guess they could not find a trading partner going down.
I would have liked to not have to spend a first on him but at the same time I welcome the investment.

If you wanted a run stuffing Nose Tackle you shouldn’t have any problems with the pick considering his size and his off the chart athleticism.

I personally would never take such a devalued position like this with a premium pick but hey if the Cowboys think this will help us not get sent home early when Dak starts to Dak then by all means I’m for it.

You lost me at Clown Show...again....

What will be Mazi's jersey number?
hopefully #80-89 one of them

wide receivers arent wearing numbers in the 80s may as well let Dlinemen go back to wearing them

A tight end would help dak not to dak?

I have zero issues with the player, I think Mazi is about as safe of a pick as you can get. Should at minimum be a solid 25 snap run stuffer. The real question is how much more can he give you.

If all he becomes is a run down specialist the effort issues really shouldn't be a major concern. The only debate I see with this pick is the value of selecting a potential rotational Dline player with a 1st round pick. I certainly see the argument for those underwhelmed by the pick for that reason. Ultimately though I think this move makes the Cowboys a stronger team than they were 24 hours ago.

Who was on the board at 26 that you would have taken? What player was available that would have a bigger impact?

I like the pick. Thank God it wasn't a TE. It may have been more of a need than BPA pick but this has been a huge need of ours for a long time and i wouldn't call it a reach since he wouldn't have been around when we picked in round 2 and was around where he was predicted to go.

BTW, Micah Parson's absolutely loved the pick.

Cowboys Get an A from me on the Mazi pick, the "Freak" will be (and almost always has been) double teamed, and that creates allot of opportunities for Quinn and company. :flagwave:

Mazi is a beast run stopper, something the Cowboys desperately needed in the middle of the D line. If he can take on two blockers, that clears a lane for a guy next to him. If he can collapse the OL, that removes the ability of the QB to step up into the pocket and buy time. That gives Micah and Company more time to get sacks. And that causes the QB to get rid of the ball faster, possibly throwing more interceptions. And, if Dan Quinn can improve a few things with this kid, he will be a great 1 tech / nose tackle for years to come.

This was a great pick!

I want players who impact the pass game. Lots of guys available who can do that.

A run stuffer? Blah..

I'm not impressed with his ability shed blockers. Don't like his anchor and set. Doesn't seem to play "hungry." Definitely doesn't chase plays down the line consistently. Has a good getoff and punch at times when his pads are low. Needs lower body work to sustain the set after the punch.

If you’re wanting to Pom Pom the pick I guess you could point to his athleticism as upside.

I’m not impressed with anything he’s done on the field but at least his testing is off the charts.

Watch the TCU game and show me the beast. Avila and others ate him up.
