I want players who impact the pass game. Lots of guys available who can do that.

A run stuffer? Blah..
I get it, I struggle with the pick purely from a value standpoint, but at the same time if this team stops giving up 4 and a half yards per carry, it opens up a lot more 3rd and long situations for Parsons to do his thing.

Also the Cowboys stepped up their run defense when they needed to late in the year, but to do so they also had to dedicate more resources as well. Firming up the inside run game allows the Cowboys to really prioritize scheming around the outside runs which is really what killed the Cowboys so much a year ago, helps keep LVE clean, etc. This has a nice ripple effect for the rest of the defense, but it would be nice if Mazi shows the ability to play more than just the nose.

If you’re wanting to Pom Pom the pick I guess you could point to his athleticism as upside.

I’m not impressed with anything he’s done on the field but at least his testing is off the charts.
With nose tackles though, as long as he’s not getting blown up a lot and is commanding double teams, he’s doing a lot for you. Be healthy, athletic, and don’t get embarrassed and he’ll be a cowboys asset

I like the pick. Thank God it wasn't a TE. It may have been more of a need than BPA pick but this has been a huge need of ours for a long time and i wouldn't call it a reach since he wouldn't have been around when we picked in round 2 and was around where he was predicted to go.

BTW, Micah Parson's absolutely loved the pick.
Amuses me so many of you guys care what Micah or even Quinn think...they aren't scouts guys. Smith got owned against TCU. Was a complete non factor for the most part. Hope he works out but I dunno.

Man, how some have such a short memory from last two years. Remember all the posts from many of us, myself included, whom stated that opponents would be better off just running the ball every single down. We had absolutely no one stuffing the line.

Out number one need is to address the problem of not stopping the opponents run game so I think they did a good one to do that. Gonna need more help in this draft on that dline and lb corps, but goog start

he is not going to play as many snaps as he played in Michigan.he can go all out on every snap here.

I care what Quinn thinks more than the scouts to be honest. DQ is a guy who has done a remarkable job of taking players and putting them in a position to utilize their strengths. Very few misses on guys the Cowboys have acquired from his time in Dallas via the draft or free agency. If DQ thinks he can utilize him I have a very hard time telling him no.

I have thumped the table many times about the Clown Show ignoring DT and the consequences of that. I saw a small bit of light when they got Hankins; but I was completely shocked at this.

Now I do have concerns about him, specifically whether he will keep up the effort full game. There were signs of that at Michigan.

But still in a lot of ways he is exactly what this team has needed for some time.

Those obsessed about pass rush need to take a chill pill, NO TEAM has all its D lineman capable of a pass rush. NO ONE.
We have been soft up the middle far too long because of Marinelli's obsession with 'quick twitch' and other garbage.
I have always been surprised that a man that played Guard in college should be so oblivious for so long on the value of really good DTs.
But then Jethro has never really been a football man no matter what he claims.
Now who finally pushed this kind of investment I do not know but I thank him.

IF KC was really after him then I can understand our move; and I guess they could not find a trading partner going down.
I would have liked to not have to spend a first on him but at the same time I welcome the investment.
The difference is Michigan probably played him way too much because they needed him on the field. In the NFL, we will have him in a much better rotation. We won’t care that he needs to come out on a long drive or take a series off as long as he goes 100% while out there.

If you wanted a run stuffing Nose Tackle you shouldn’t have any problems with the pick considering his size and his off the chart athleticism.

I personally would never take such a devalued position like this with a premium pick but hey if the Cowboys think this will help us not get sent home early when Dak starts to Dak then by all means I’m for it.
I'm sorry but end of the first round isn't premium

Maybe with his quick feet and athleticism he becomes BJ Raji? We won’t know until the pads come on. I am quite confident in DQ, being a Dline coach at heart, turning this dude into what we all hope he can be.

I hope this is sarcasm.

If not, I'll go with it.

Yes, this is a league built for passing. But teams NEED to run to control the clock and/or protect their QB if he is of lesser caliber. Most of us, who are fans of the Cowboys or football, in general, have seen RBs take over a game. It happens less in the NFL than it used to but what about when you face a guy like Derrick Henry (who we obviously should've taken instead of Zeke )?
Hopefully, we got it. Anchors free up other players to make plays, especially when he is a free man on a blitz and you have your big NT taking up two blocks.

They tried to do it cheap with Bohanna. They hope to rectify that mistake with this pick.
You need an anchor.

It’s not so much about the player but the position using a premium pick. I also get really scared about guys who’s effort is questioned
Having him to plug the middle is fine. Using 26 to get him when there was options that filled just as big or bigger need is my issue
I also think the whole narrative on our run D is over exaggerated. We was dead middle of the league in run D, tied with the Super Bowl champs. Two factors accounted for half the rush yards that a NT likely doesn’t solve. QB runs and edge runs. We really didn’t get killed on runs up the middle.
