This team desperately needs to get away from the hooplah surrounding the opening of the new stadium. The road is the perfect place to establish focus. This couldn't have come at a better time. Ask any football player and they'll tell you those hotel rooms are great places to find your happy area and develop chemistry. There's just too much going on with the Stadium, making sure family is well accommodated, and then the media circus that comes along with being not only the Cowboys but being the Cowboys in the new Cowboys Stadium. The road is going to be the perfect medicine for this team. They're desperately in search of an identity and they began to find themselves in the 2nd half of the MNF game. They'll build upon that success on the road.

Winner: Cowboys by at least 10

I'm actually finding more enjoyment in watching a Cowboys game this year when contrast with my experience last year. I find myself watching for the little things more closely instead of just taking in the overall picture. Call it scrutiny if you will... It's definitely a more enjoyable experience. At this point last year you couldn't tell me anything. My head was held high and I was skirting the clouds. I was a braggart and was probably viewed by my non Cowboy fan acquaintances as just a tad over the top. I didn't care. My Boys were 3-0 going into the Washington game and there was no denying 4-0... We all know how that game and the rest of the season unfolded. After a few years of seeing things from a rosy perspective I have now settled into what appears to be a more realistic view of the team. I'm in a very good place. I'm no longer steered by emotion and now watch the games with a calmer approach. This is a good spot and I plan on staying here for awhile. If we make the playoffs I will be pleasantly surprised. If we go 9-7 and miss the playoffs I will say they are what I thought they were and begin to look forward to next season. All is well.

Lastly, on my way home today I had the good fortune of hearing Victor Butler on Sirius NFL Radio. The guy sounds like an enthusiastic young man with a good head on his shoulders. I'll be pulling for him from here on out. 2 sacks and a forced fumble in 5 plays???? Ridiculous. Just plain ridiculous. :D His presence alone will naturally push Spencer to step his own game up. This will only serve to make both players better.

It's great you can watch the games with a calmer attitude. I wish I could. I'm way too emotional and over the top watching the game. My family runs and hides. That's not good.

I'd kind of been thinking the same thing as your first paragraph. All offseason we did everything possible to be low-key and eliminate the circus. Then our first two home games, we immediately get... New stadium circus.

I'm not blaming the hoopla for our losing to the Giants, but still... Maybe it didn't help us, either.

Good post. Butler and Doc Oc need to see about 15-20 combined plays a game. Ware and Spencer are just running out of gas at the end of games. Get a fresh Butler and Octavien into the game.

Let's hope Wade realizes this.

Yeah man. My sentiments exactly. When you spend so much time preaching focus focus focus and then you turn on the lights of the Taj Mahal it can be a little disconcerting for the home team. Like you said, no excuses... but perspective. The road will be the perfect medicine for this team.

Same here. There have been numerous times over the past 3 years that I thought I was going to get thrown out of Buffalo Wild Wings. When Romo didn't get the field goal snap down against Seattle in the playoffs in Jan. 2007, all my buddies that were at the table with me pushed their chairs about 5 feet away from the table at the same time. I swear, there were about 8 to 10 of us and everyone of them immediately pushed away from the table in order to avoid what they thought would be coming from me. But, I was so stunned I couldn't do anything but just sit there dumbfounded. After about 15 minutes I exploded, got very drunk, and wanted to get in a big bar brawl. Luckily I ended up going home.

Excellent post. I enjoy being able to go through part of a day in the life of a fellow die-hard fan and getting information from them because they were either at home and caught a quick comment from NFL Network or ESPN, or on their way home from work and are listening to Sirius radio.

Great stuff. This is what makes the days between each game enjoyable. Thanks Bleu Star.

Great post Bleu Star!

I'm also a bit calmer this year and I also find myself paying attention to the finer points of the game. I think part of it has to do with the criticism that our QB and defense has been receiving. The other part is probably just me getting older.

For some reason, I don't view the new stadium hoopla as having much of an impact on the players. I liken it to my own experience at work. My co-workers and I recently moved from an old office building from 1967 into a state-of-the art $100 million office building. We actually noticed an uplift in pride, enthusiasm to go to work, and an increase in productivity. Granted, this is far different from a football venue that is on TV all the time.

I understand your friends moving away from the table as you get excited about a Cowboys game. I'll share a funny story. The first football game I ever watched was the 1981 NFC Champ game, famous for "The Catch". I instantly fell in love with the blue star on those silver helmets. I was in the 2nd grade at the time. When the game ended as it did, I was so upset that I wrote an angry letter to Joe Montana as my parents were trying to calm me down (while cracking a laugh at the same time). I even put it in an envelope and penciled in a box in the corner with the words "here's your stamp". I asked my mother to mail it. She never did, but lied and said she did. She kept that letter, sealed in the envelope and all, and presented it to me after the Cowboys beat the Niners in the 1992 NFC Champ game...11 years later. We all got a good laugh out if it on a great day!

That's me right there. My wife told me during our last game that she didn't like how I changed when the Cowboys were playing. I just told her calmly that I let out all my frustrations from the following week coming rushing out when the Cowboys play. It's emotional for me.
