My Vastly Different Take on the Romo INT

I agree with the OP to a certain extent. I didnt think Romo should have went in that direction, but it probably looks a lot worst of a throw because Williams clearly ran the wrong route.

Complain about Romo on one play and get labeled a Romo-hater.:) Yeah, Okay, I'm busted. I hate him so much I drafted Romo for my fantasy football team along with Witten and Miles and the Dallas defense. I barely missed out on adding Murray. I don't want to just beat my co-workers (all cowboy-haters) in fantasy football, but I want to beat them with Cowboys so it stings even more. By the way, even though Romo is my favorite player, I'm not blind to seeing his mistakes and calling him out. Sometimes, like Parcells said, "he (Romo) is off the reservation" and many times he makes outstanding plays.

Some may see WR Williams and his mistake and stop there. Fine.
Others may care to dig deeper and look at root cause analysis. There is a lot more data in that play than just the WR screwed up.

Excellent post. We need more people around here who can be honest with themselves like you are. It doesn't make you a "Romo Hater" it just makes you a realist. Also, there is nothing wrong with being a homer but there is something wrong with denying what you see just because you are in love with a particular player or the team.

That's just it.. our score should have been higher than 27 points at that point, but due to our poor play in the redzone it wasn't. And yeah, it was all the defenses fault when they had 6 turnovers.

Huh? Fault? I specifically said the opposite. Nice straw man though

It was an extremely safe and simple square in, Football 101, and basically the equivalent of a WR screen. It wasn't in the "teeth of the defense". There wasn't a defender within 7 yards of where the pass was going to be completed, and Witten and Austin had already sealed off the nearest defender from the play. Not only was it extremely safe if the proper route is run, Williams has a chance to convert the 11 yards if he cuts upfield and follows the Miles/Witten blocking to the safety lane.

Has nothing to do with loving or hating Romo. You're just wrong. Williams 100 % at fault. Sorry you didn't come up with some deep profound take that the entire football universe missed.

And isn't it time we let go of what Parcells said about Romo in 2006? It doesn't apply at all here and Romo is not the same player or person as then

I think you just put a dagger in the hearts of the few that want to blame Romo, Garrett and Jones for everything that goes wrong on Sunday. Looking at this picture, it is easy to see why Romo went to the kid. It was the best option and should have been the safest, the kid would either make the catch and get tackled short of the first down or maybe break a tackle and score. There is no way that anyone, with a straight face can blame Romo for any of this after seeing this picture. NONE.

coming from the undisputed top romo hater this is kind of funny. In a pathetic sort of way.

sadly there are at least 4 in this thread who cannot get past their romo hate to see anything that could possibly make them doubt their hatred. they would have to kill themselves; thus it is a matter of self preservation.

Looking at it again, your right on the money. I think the Cowboys were primarily just playing conservative, trying to preserve the FG. As you said, the marker was around 11 yards from where he would have caught the ball. The picture is a little deceptive in the MLB position for I believe 53 and the other coverage corner, since it's after the INT already taken place, but I think it would be safe to assume they would have a nice shot at tackling Williams.

One can't blame Romo for the INT at all. As far as if he audibled out of a specific play or what other options Romo had to choose from, one could theoretically dispute that, but... nobody knows what those plays were and their design, if any...

The problem is that there was nothing Romo did wrong on that play. The whole Cowboy organization, including Williams, admits that it was the WR's fault. Some fan on a message board says the opposite and wants to be taken seriously? Just a hater.

We already had the field goal though. The odds of that play picking up a first down were super slim and the decision to audible with seconds on the clock and throw to the rookie was very questionable... knowing his recent history with running the wrong routes.

If Romo can't rely on him during the game, then why the hell is he in the game to begin with? That's not Romo's fault, if anything that's coaching then. At this point you're just reaching trying to put any blame you can on Romo, it's quite sad to be honest.

He admitted Williams ran the wrong route.. EVERYONE admits that. It just that it appears there were safer plays to run on 3rd and 11 vs audibling with seconds on the clock to a rookie.

Bingo... Why is he in the game when we have someone who is currently better AND more experienced?

Because then folks would complain that Garrett is sticking with a veteran over a rookie with "loads of potential".

Happens all the damn time here. Can't win.

Doesn't matter what people say if he is making the right decisions. Starting Ogletree all year as our #3 last year was the wrong decision as well. He had to be one of the dumbest receivers I have ever seen. He had the one good game week 1 in 2012 and then played horribly the rest of the year. Harris was noticeably better but still didn't get the start.

On Tony Romo INT Sunday night, Cowboys rookie WR Terrance Williams said Romo "checked to something else and I wasn't looking."

So Romo checked to him but he wasn't looking at Romo?
