My wife once brought home a female friend, can anyone beat that?
Only once? Sorry to hear that.
My wife is a diehard Cowboys fan. She didn't follow football before we met, though she's always been athletic, and played various sports competitively. Since becoming a Cowboys fan she has had me sit down with her and sketch out every position on the field, their responsibilities, and our depth chart relating to that position. During long car drives she'll sometimes have me test her on the depth chart to pass time.
She won't let anyone visit, and won't answer the phone or door during Cowboys games. She finds this out in advance, telling friends or in-laws on the phone, "Sorry, the Cowboys are playing from 2-5pm, so we can't make it / don't come over."
If someone asks her to do something on a Monday night, a month from now, she will ask them to hang on and ask if we're playing MNF on such and such a date.
Her favorite player is Terry Glenn, but Romo is a close second. Her top five are:
1. Glenn
2. Romo
3. Owens
4. Witten
5. Ware
Since we've gotten together she has learned and runs all the routes while I throw her the ball (she does the same in return and throws a spiral 70% of the time, and only the odd duck). She's a professional violinist and will even run routes on the day of a performance, but once when she had an important concerto she asked me to "take a little bit off" the ball the last couple days leading up to the concert.
She loves timing patterns, although they can sometimes scare her a bit, but even after turning a bit late (or due to my inaccuracy/early throw) and getting a ball in the side of the head, she runs back and flips me the ball, ready for more. Her favorite route is a deep fade.
She has gotten the pink Cowboys hat for herself, a Romo jersey for me, and.. what can I say... is a wonderful wife.
If anyone wants a tip, email your gf/wife every human interest story involving a Cowboy player. Anything that involves them overcoming tragedy, showing vulnerability, a generous heart (Christmas / Thanksgiving / hospital stuff), childhood difficulties... these things have helped my wife feel like she knows the players, and has resulted in her becoming emotionally attached to their success.
