Hoping one day our 2nd round pick will actually pan out and be a productive member of the team.

Last one to do that was Lee, back in 2010. Jury is still out on Smith and C.A., but to me it's an unknown if Smith can fully recover. Even then, it's not a fool proof bet that he'll be a stud. Awuzie is trying to beat Austin for days out with a hammy injury.

Just thinking out loud here.
With the failure of hitting on 2nd rounders lately, I might start considering that draft slot as trade up bait in the first round of the draft. Probably a stupid idea. Or is it?

Teams say the same thing about Dak, Romo, Frederick, Lee, Emmitt, Lett, etc.

However, injured players are a scary proposition. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't.

I'd actually go the other direction with that, our first rounders have been solid, generally. If we're going to leverage the 2nd, I'd rather see us with some extra 3's and or 4s depending on the depth of the draft

Jack is the SAM in Jax because he couldn't beat out Polouzny at MIKE and Tevin Smith at WILL

If we are going to talk Jack, let's put this in context.

Jack was tried at all three LB positions his rookie year and failed so he essentially got benched. Then in early camps this year, they put him back at MLB essentially benching Pozluzney. By the time they rolled to regular camp in August, they realized Jack couldn't play MLB and moved him to SAM and inserted Poz back as the starting MLB.

So wishing to have Jack right now might be a stretch because he couldn't work at MLB in Jax so I am not sure how he'd work at MLB here.

As it pertains to Smith, for one, I am not sure he's really ready to play from both a mental and physical standpoint. Further, I think they trying to make him something he's not.............. a MLB. He's a WILL. I think Marinelli thinks he's a MLB because he can envision a healthy Smith and his ability to run and cover in his archaic Tampa 2 system.

Just like Jax realized Jack wasn't a certain type of LB, you hope the Cowboys eventually realize that with Smith IMO.

Youre right. Lets never acknowledge our mistakes so we can continue to make the same ones.

Even if it was acknowledged, then what?

We don't have any power to make changes/adjustments to future players and we can't get a refund/do over on the pick that was already used.

Calling the people/decision makers in charge dumb and incompetent or whatever else they deserve will not make me feel better or fix the mistake(s). It is what it is.

It is hard to admit after all the hype and what I personally wanted but the best move would to swap Lee and Smith..... Smith is very good at lateral pursuit and Lee doesn't need protection anymore.....it is ride or die and we have Hitch if Lee gets hurt

We need to see JSmith blitz more instead of Lee...... General Lee gets stonewalled every time

I tend to agree.

I know why they moved Lee to begin with - to protect him a bit. But at this point, with his age, do we really need to worry about protecting him anymore? If the best alignment going forward (if Smith gets truly healthy) is Lee at MIKE and Smith at WILL, they should do it.

Smith was fantastic in sideline/backside pursuit at Norte Dame; he's not the same player right now though.

As far as Myles Jack "failing" at a number of LB spots in Jacksonville, I think that's a convienent take to try to make a point. Poslunzy is a solid NFL veteran with leadership and experience, Telvin Smith is a talented young player; I see it much more as the Jags trying to put their best three LBs on the field.

Not at all...I have been saying for years that we might as well use the pick as trade fodder...every time an impact player was offered up before the trade deadline or during the offseason with a team wanting at least a second round pick for a player, tons of folks would clammer "no way! that's way too expensive! I would never trade away a premium pick for him!" And then I'd say..."Why not? Not like we're going to actually get someone who'll contribute with that selection...may as well use it here!?!" Seriously, our second round selecting has become more or less a Jerry playpen where he gets to show how smart he is and select that would-be "dark horse" pick that, "but for" this or that issue (physical, behavioral, etc.), would have been a first rounder. This narrative is soooo played out and makes me laugh every time I hear it..."it's like we got 3 first rounders from this draft!?" you always see...yeah right.

Considering he is one of the top linebackers in the league when healthy, yea, they should keep him at WOLB for now.
Let's first wait till Smith is at or close to 100% physcially before thinking of a switch. Not this year.
