Decision to cut Glenn angers Williams

IRVING - There's unrest in the Cowboys locker room after the team cut Aaron Glenn and Junior Glymph.

"I'm pissed off," safety Roy Williams said of the Glenn whacking.

Williams said the move leaves a significant leadership void. Several others agreed, although linebacker Akin Ayodele took a philosophical approach.

"It's sad. It's disappointing. But it's part of the game," Ayodele said.

None of them said the obvious: Glenn, even at age 35, is a better corner than either Jacques Reeves or Nate Jones, both of whom could be called on to fill in for Terence Newman should his foot injury keep him out of the Giants game Sunday.

Jacksonville, by the way, claimed Glenn on Monday. The Cowboys still must pay him $500,000 this season.

Meanwhile, linebacker Bradie James said he was surprised Glymph was cut, given Greg Ellis' future is uncertain and rookie Anthony Spencer is struggling at times at strongside linebacker.

What will be really interesting is when the team confronts Wade about it and he blames Jerry and when they go to Jerry he blames Wade. This way we can have a divided locker room AND a coach the players have given up on. All in one tidy little article.

Sometimes I agreed with Parcells "media and the players" philosophy.

Wow-this must be a slow news day-making something out of nothing, really.

Junior Glymph??

I for one don't like Roy Williams questioning the coaching staff. That didn't happen under Parcells.

This team does to much talking and not enough playing football to there best ability. Shut the h... up and play the game. Glenn was 35 years old and had lost valuable speed needed to play the position. Not to mention already being undersized.

Who cares??? Patriot players continually question some of Bellichek's moves and it doesn't seem to hurt them.

Listening to Wade during his press conference, it sounds like Wade thinks Jacques Reeves is as good as Glenn and has a bigger upside.

Why does anyone believe a word of this article? It's as if it's a slow news day and this writer has nothing better to do.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Isn't Roy smart enough to know that saying something against the coach will end up in the news? I'm sure he's giving his honest opinion, but sometimes it's better to take the high road and shut up.

Some of you posters tickle me.... Players have a right to question things just like employees have a right to get mad about situtions on the job.

Yep, Wade made it clear how they decided to cut:

1. Could the player start?
2. What does he offer on special teams?
3. Does he offer a specialty role (nickel rusher, etc.)

It was obvious from what he said and didn't say -- he didn't want to throw Aaron under the bus -- that he didn't think Glenn could play a whole game.

And when you consider that he offers nothing on special teams... There's the answer.

And on the other topic, hey Roy: If you think this creates a leadership void, why don't you step up and try to fill it?

Roy's not such a great player that he can afford to open his mouth. He should concentrate on playing the best he can -- and that includes making tackles instead of going for the highlight reel and missing the guy.

I would feel alot better if we would had kept Glenn and used him in the same role regardless of who starts. I didnt feel good about him playing a whole game but I think he h
is better than Jones for sure

I really like Roy as a player, but he should just shut up and play. He needs to be worried about getting himself ready to play like he's being paid. The one thing I don't like about our defense is we've got too many guys that like to run their mouths and make excuses rather than strapping on their helmets and getting after it. Spears, Williams, James, etc. have been doing this for quite some time and it's getting old. They need to just shut up, play ball, assume leadership roles, and forget all the rest of the stuff. They're far too highly paid for this crap.

Actually, it sounds to me like he meant that Glenn met #1, but not #2 and #3. Reeves met all three. I agree, if those are your qualifications, then cut him.

Obviously leadership and experience don't matter that much to Wade.

Roy is just upset because of the friendship they shared. Of course he would be pissed his friend isnt there. Moreso because maybe he was out of a job. But fortunately Glenn signed on with someone already.

or money matters to jerry. it seems to me jerry took a miscalculated risk that he could survive a week without aaron glenn and re-sign him on week two so his whole salary wont be guaranteed and it backfired. is not as if he hasn't tried this cheapskate move before. they can talk up reeves and jones all they want and if newman comes back healthy none of this will matter eventually. the first time eli connects deep on the left corner side and madden makes a comment on how could newman or glenn would have fared, wade & jerry's mug will be screen and the second guessing will explode.
