QB ratings in his era are judged differently. Whereas in today's NFL you can have 10 or so QBs with 90+ QB ratings in a season, back then you would only have a few.

And by the way, during the three seasons he won the Super Bowl, he was in the top five in the league in QB rating (during two of those Super Bowl seasons he was in the top three), so pointing to Aikman actually helps prove my point.

interesting point. I still think McNabb is slightly better. personally I could care less if Romo was as good as trent Dilfer or Tom Brady as long as we win in the postseason and a Superbowl or 2(or 3 or 4)

I understand the feeling, but football is a team sport and you just can't judge individuals based solely on the performance of the team.

Mcnabb gained a lot of fanboys early on due to the fact that he was once a brilliant running QB that made a lot of plays with his feet.

He also played on teams that generally had very good defenses. And most of his success came at a time when the NFC was considered the much weaker conference.

I'd like to see what percentage of his passing yards and completions came on short dumpoffs to Westbrook/Staley/Buckhalter, that they then carried for 10+ yards.

I'd bet that considerably inflated Mcnabb's already weak-looking passer rating.

I am with the group that has seen him throw way too many grounders to wide open receivers. I don't consider him a great QB. Not at all.

theo, I said he's slighty better than Tony. Is that that hard for you to believe that someone has that opinion? like BigDen said "qb rating doesn't tell the whole story". I'm basing my opinion of what i've seen. slightly

Former NFL MVP Rich Gannon (2002) is a host on Sirius NFL radio and came out with his rankings of NFC East quarterbacks:

1. Tony Romo
2. Donovan McNabb
3. Eli Manning
4. Jason Campbell

Here's what Gannon had to say about Romo: "I think now that he's dumped Jessica Simpson, he's got the golf clubs in the closet, he's able to focus, he's got rid of T.O., I look for him to have a great year, absorb and take on more of that leadership with the Cowboys. I just think he's got the best skills of all those quarterbacks. ... He's a great competitor. He's got a little bit of that gunslinger mentality like Brett Favre. He's willing to take chances. I really think he's probably going to have his best year in the absence of T.O."

Follow to the jump for the rest of his quarterback talk

On McNabb: "Tony Romo ahead of Donovan McNabb, it's by just a hair. I think that Donovan McNabb is a solid player in Philadelphia. I think he certainly gives them the best chance to win. Remarkable run, all those championship games that they've been to. But they haven't gotten over the hump and that's the thing that concerns me a little bit. The other thing is, I'd love to see Donovan McNabb stay in Philadelphia in the offseason and train with that football team. I just have a hard time with a guy who packs up at the end of the season and moves out to Arizona; he lives out there and works out there. I just think, in this day and age, with the amount of money you're talking about and the importance of that offseason program, that I want my quarterback in town in Philadelphia."

On Eli Manning: "I think he's gotten better each year and that's certainly something the Giants are very aware of. He had his best year last year in terms of his completion percentage, up around 60 percent, his passer rating [was] 86. The thing that has always concerned me about him is his completion percentage. Not the most accurate guy, just a career completion percentage around 55 percent. But I will say this: the Manning boys are tough. They are great competitors. They are tremendous leaders. He's the perfect fit for Tom Coughlin and that offense and that football team. ... The other thing I like about him is he lines up and plays every week. Four years in a row he has not missed a game. I look for consistency at that position and he brings it to that football team."

like Troy Aikman?

Doesn't Troy have is own version of the QB rating. He thinks that the "official" QB rating doen't tell an accurate story of what the QB actually did.

And you would still take McFlabb over Romo. McFlabb wasnt even good at the Cuse.

Here's what Gannon said about Campbell.

On Campbell: "He's a big guy with a strong arm and is one of the nicest guys in the league. He's pretty tough and is very nice. He's put up with a lot there in DC and doesn't complain because he's such a nice guy. He has difficulty reading defenses and isn't quick with his decisions. Great guy though. Mouth breather. Checks down a lot to his RB's who agree that Jason is a really nice guy. Good touch on his hand-offs and pitches but can make life hard on his O-Linemen because it takes him two-and-a-half to three minuets to scan the field to find the open guy. His TE's love him because he makes them look smart by comparison, and though his RB is a cross dresser, he still manages to take most of the blame upon himself. Nice guy.

He has his own rankings system, but it measures team production, not QB production.

I am just asking, what was McChunky's stats his first year with TO when they were all good vs' Tony's stats his first full year with TO?

To say the McNabb never had a receiver is wrong. Or you could say the same about Romo. What are their stats with TO or without him?
