Third-round pick Jason Williams is a tremendous athlete blessed with great speed, quickness and strength.

But those attributes are useless unless he learns how to play the pro game.

Williams, an alum of Western Illinois, struggled with schemes, coverages, etc., during training camp.

But in last Friday's preseason game against Tennessee "a light came on," Wade Phillips said Monday.

"I could see it in that game," Phillips said. "He played well in that game. I'm looking forward to seeing him more. He practiced good right before the game, practiced good again today. It seems to be coming to him."

The highlight for Williams was forcing Titans backup QB Patrick Ramsey into an intentional grounding for a safety.

"He knew what to do, he knew where to go and he got to it," Phillips said.

Considering how thin the Cowboys are depth-wise, this is great news for Phillips. Although Bobby Carpenter has all but nailed down the nickel linebacker spot, Phillips needs Williams to be ready should Carpenter go down with an injury.

I really like this player.

His athletic ability was obvious in the first game, and he played even better last week. If he has the instincts, he'll be outstanding.

This is great news. He could be a superstar in 2-3 years with all that potential and raw talent he has.

The young man is raw. He will continue to learn the pro game. Most likely, we fans will not see the true benefits from him until at least next season.

We are just going to have to be patient.

That's great news, the guy seems to be a hard worker and it's paying off on the field...

And is a beast when he hits. Always seems to be trying to seperate the QB from the ball, and his head. :D

This is something a defense can never have enough of.

Yup, he's dangerous.

Not yet on the level of our lethal kickoff specialist, but along the lines of a David Buehler starter kit, IMO.

He's going to be absolute carnage in the near future.

Chalk one up for the Jones'. He wasnt really on my radar in April, but hes legit.

And hes smart too, no? Next year he could back up several LB spots, or start (depending on Barbie). Very nice weapon to have.

Any LB that can put points on the board deserves more playing time.

Just the beginning for this kid.

Been talking up Williams since his Pro Day.

I can't wait to see what Wade has in mind for the kid. I can see some nice games being run with him on the same side with Ware.
