Even if he is a decent player, this was a sub par draft already.

God I hope you are right.

Can you imagine Ware and Willis together????

Wow..I can only imagine:D

Hope he gets about 5-10 snaps a game this year just being a rover blitzing.

Third-round pick Jason Williams is a tremendous athlete blessed with great speed, quickness and strength.

But those attributes are useless unless he learns how to play the pro game.

Williams, an alum of Western Illinois, struggled with schemes, coverages, etc., during training camp.

But in last Friday's preseason game against Tennessee "a light came on," Wade Phillips said Monday.

"I could see it in that game," Phillips said. "He played well in that game. I'm looking forward to seeing him more. He practiced good right before the game, practiced good again today. It seems to be coming to him."

The highlight for Williams was forcing Titans backup QB Patrick Ramsey into an intentional grounding for a safety.

"He knew what to do, he knew where to go and he got to it," Phillips said.

Considering how thin the Cowboys are depth-wise, this is great news for Phillips. Although Bobby Carpenter has all but nailed down the nickel linebacker spot, Phillips needs Williams to be ready should Carpenter go down with an injury.

:bang2: why.. just why

Maybe, but I don't know. We'll have to see how it plays out over the next couple of years. I like what I see so far from J. Williams, Hodge, Butler and M. Hamlin. Ogletree wasn't drafted but he is likely to replace Stanback.

I'm happy to hear he's getting it. I hope he continues to improve all through the year and gives us more and more as the season goes along.

I feel as though your statement is waay off there GR. Although we don't have the superstar that will come in and start right away like with Felix/Choice/Bennett/Jenkins, or the draft that brought us Ware/Spears/Canty, we will still have at least one starter of this group by next year. I would guess that Brewster/Hamlin/Smith all have a shot at their positions. This team needs a lot of hungry young talent to push the veterans, and I think they are doing their jobs.

Plus, being hungry helps the offense get a personality, something I don't think we had last year, but we did in 2007. Time will tell, and I most definitely think we won't be trading out of the 1st and 2nd rounds next year (I hope).

Hey, I could be wrong. I just have never been this disappointed in a draft so quickly.

Best 3rd round pick since Witten?

He's got to hit the field before I say something like that Witten looks as though he can be a HoF TE.

LOL. I can only imagine who you will compare him to when he makes a play during a real game, let alone earn a start.

I have to laugh at you patting yourself on the back regarding this player. Where's your bookmark from the offseason when you preferred Beckwith and Ellerbe over Jason Williams? There were only a few guys who actively supported taking small schooler Jason Williams at ILB, and you weren't one of them. :D

It's encouraging to see the TALENT translating to this level, because frankly, I think that's always the major concern when drafting someone from a smaller school or, really, from anywhere.

I don't see any real red flags that suggest this guy won't get a grasp of the mental game or lacks the instincts. He's smart, a hard worker and was always around the ball in college. The fact his skills are now showing up makes me very, very hopeful.

It's hard to hit a home run with a draft when you lack a first or second rounder. I'm very critical of this draft, but I'll fully admit this is the sort of draft that can only be reviewed down the road.

There's no immediate starter. Heck, we even drafted a developmental QB, who we'll know absolutely nothing about for at least two seasons. Add on top of that the fact Brewster and Brandon Williams are done for the year, and it's going to be difficult to assess much immediately. The downfall is this draft simply will not produce many down-the-road starters. I think that's fairly undeniable.

My hope? Buehler is a dynamic kickoff guy who justifies the pick; Stephen McGee is a quality backup in two seasons; Jason Williams is a playmaker by Year 3; Brandon Williams and Victor Butler provide much-needed pass-rushing ability off the bench by Year 2; Brewster and maybe one other pick are quality backups by Year 2 or 3.

My fear? Most of these guys that make the team never amount to much more than inadequate depth and are churned off the roster by Year 3.
