MySa Blog: 'Light comes on' for third-round LB Williams

It's hard to hit a home run with a draft when you lack a first or second rounder. I'm very critical of this draft, but I'll fully admit this is the sort of draft that can only be reviewed down the road.

There's no immediate starter. Heck, we even drafted a developmental QB, who we'll know absolutely nothing about for at least two seasons. Add on top of that the fact Brewster and Brandon Williams are done for the year, and it's going to be difficult to assess much immediately. The downfall is this draft simply will not produce many down-the-road starters. I think that's fairly undeniable.

My hope? Buehler is a dynamic kickoff guy who justifies the pick; Stephen McGee is a quality backup in two seasons; Jason Williams is a playmaker by Year 3; Brandon Williams and Victor Butler provide much-needed pass-rushing ability off the bench by Year 2; Brewster and maybe one other pick are quality backups by Year 2 or 3.

My fear? Most of these guys that make the team never amount to much more than inadequate depth and are churned off the roster by Year 3.

We had a 2nd round pick but decided to trade down =/.

I have to laugh at you patting yourself on the back regarding this player. Where's your bookmark from the offseason when you preferred Beckwith and Ellerbe over Jason Williams? There were only a few guys who actively supported taking small schooler Jason Williams at ILB, and you weren't one of them.

There really was no position available for ANY rook to immediately start, at least not on offense or defense. It was the ST that lacked "immediate starters", hence the draft philosophy. This draft will take 2-3 years to evaluate properly, like all drafts I think.

Because I liked Beckwith a little better. I'll be the first to admit that I was wrong about Beckwith. No problem admitting that.

IDK man you're claiming that you supported a lot of players when you were very critical of some during the draft and you just flat out hated others like Chung.
