The mother of Cowboys rookie quarterback Stephen McGee reports her son can't wait for training camp to start.
Susan McGee is president and general counsel of San Antonio-based U.S. Global Investors.
"He's been studying the playbook constantly," she said. "Whenever I talked to him, that's what he was doing. He's been working out a lot too. I think he wants to get out there and get some reps. I think he's really anxious to get out there and get on with it. He seems to be in a really good spot now. He just sounds good when you talk to him. He's in a really good spot mentally and physically."
The Cowboys are just fine with Stephen using the next couple of years to learn the pro game after he played mainly in an option-based offense at Texas A&M. Still, Susan McGee says her son will push himself as if he were competing for the starting job.
"He's such a perfectionist," Susan said of Stephen. "He wants to do it just right in the beginning. I know he will push himself."
The Cowboys are scheduled to report to San Antonio on July 28. Practice starts July 29.
