Chuck Howley...who else?

Very under appreciated by fans who don't really know just how great he was.

I'm Going with Howley and Charlie Waters. Waters was so good in his time but isn't even in the ROH. Howley should have long ago been in the HOF.

I agree. It's still a shame he isn't in the HOF !

Only player to ever win a Super Bowl MVP on a losing team.

Jackie Smith - by far going away he wins this.

If you have never heard the story Charlie Waters relates then you missed the real reason why this guy was significant in ways other than one dropped pass.

Waters told of the 1978 season going south because the team was giving a half-hearted effort.

Then Smith calls a players only meeting and chews the team for going through the motions because of their entitlement attitude.

He reminded them he came from the Cardinals who would give anything to be in the shoes of the team that had been to the Super Bowl twice in three years.

Which turned the season around causing them to win eight straight all the way to the Super Bowl.

Waters said Smith challenged every player that day and shamed them into remembering what the game was about.

He goes down as the goat of the 78 Super Bowl.

Truth is they may not have gone had it not been for him.

Uh....I respect Jackie Smith and all, but the guy was on the team for one year, catching all of three passes. Great speech aside, I just don't consider him a Cowboy.

70's - Butch Johnson
80's- Danny White
90's- Dixon Edwards/Thomas Everett
00's- Quincy (am I the only one who thinks if not for his release he was about to have a career year?)
10's- .... none. The big names have disappeared when it counts, and the support players have provided zero support.

This is about to change in a big big way however.

Butch Johnson had a total of 35 catches for 479 yards and 4 TDs during the 1970s for Dallas. I don't see that as doing something that is deserving of getting his due. He also had 14 fumbles in the 1970s.

I think Thomas Everett does get the credit he is due. It is difficult to say he deserves a tremendous amount of credit since he was only in Dallas for two seasons. He also had 14 fumbles in the 1970s.

I suppose Quincy Carter could have had a career year in 2004 had he not been released. So what? Career year doesn't mean good year or a year that would help Dallas win games. He wasn't good enough for a career year to amount to anything.

I agree. He doesn't deserve all the ridicule he has gotten, but he was barely a Cowboy.

Drew Bledsoe.

Played his heart out for us and did well even though he is a statue and we completely failed at finding an Oline to protect him.

I have to disagree. He wasn't in Dallas long enough to earn enough to get his due. He had a poor line, but he also just wasn't good enough. He made plenty of mistakes that you can't pin on the offensive line during his tenure in Dalals. Plus he pouted when he was replaced with Romo.

Danny White

Danny was the first to come to my mind as well. As a kid, I was crushed to see him weeping on the sidelines when the boys lost to the Commanders in the NFC championship game (Hope my memory isn't fuzzy on this one!).

...Danny White.

The expectations were so great for the team before the strike shortened season.

Opposing managers were coming up to Landry and saying the Super Bowl was his.

To see it go to the Commanders was a tragedy.

Combine that with the catch and it relegated Danny White to forgotten status while few remember what a contribution he made to the team as the QB and its punter.

Jackie Smith is a hall of famer. How did he not get his just due.If talking only with the Cowboys.Jackie Smith played in 12 games with Dallas in 1978,and caught no balls. He did catch 3 for 38yds,and a touchdown in the divisional playoffs, and no catches in the NFC Championship,or Super Bowl.So he got his just due as a Cardinal, and he doesn't deserve it as a Cowboy.

Would Dallas and Troy Aikman have ever made it to the 94-95 Superbowl without Ray Donaldson.
Well they did.Donaldson started the first 12 games, and then got hurt.He missed the last 4 reg. season games and the entire postseason.Derrick Kennard took his place.

Ed "Too Tall" Jones.
He was a tremendous run defender and his length could change the momentum of the game by blocking passes. For his size his agility was amazing.

Harvey Martin-during that Super Bowl 12 season he was the best DE this franchise has ever seen. Including up to today's team. They didn't keep sack totals back then but Martin and Randy White fed off each other by terrorizing qb's. Martin was a force of nature that season. He couldn't be stopped.

Preston Pearson-was a multi-talented rb who was a big threat in the passing game. Preston was so smart and it seemed he was always catching a 3rd down pass 1 yd beyond the first down marker. In the 2 minute offense he was always in the right place at the right time. Single-handedly killed the Rams in the 75 NFC championship game.
