There is inbalance for whatever reason. The 1960s Packers already have 11 players in the HOF which has to be the record for any team for a particular era. Cowboys of the 1970s have 7. Problem with the Cowboys is there were also some very good Steeler and Raiders teams playing in the same era with lots of players in vying for the similar slots (Swann vs Pearson as an example).

True and the NFL was much smaller. AFL and NFL did not merge until the 1970.

Dallas went to the NFL Championship or NFC Championship game 10 of 13 years. They won the SB twice. There is exactly zero reasons for those Cowboys teams not to have the proper representation in the HOF.

I loved Charlie Waters and Cliff Harris but I don't think either deserve to be in the HOF. The Hall of Very Good maybe.

Howley was as good as more than a few LBs in the Hall in that time frame. He could have played RB in the NFL and maybe G as well. Howley could probably play in today's game IMO.

Martin and Too Tall deserve consideration esp Martin. Jordan as well. Pearson maybe.

One of the most neglected of the Cowboys whom deserve fame is Cornell Green. JMO. Jethro Pugh and George Andre never got any consideration worth a bean either.

In order for me.

1. Chuck Howley
2. Cliff Harris
3. Harvey Martin
4. Drew Pearson

I would switch Cliff and Harvey but keep the same 4. Howley not being in when frankly lesser LBS like Robinson just got in is why I despise the current HOF selection committee.

My list
  • Drew Pearson - Clutch receiver, Hail Mary catch. He's as good as Lynn Swan who is in . ;)
  • Cliff Harris - Defined the modern safety. His omission highlights anti-Cowboy bias.
Honorable mention to Ed "Too Tall" Jones and Leroy Jordan.

Not a bad list!

For me, the list would be as follows:

1-Chuck Howley- he was an outstanding LB for most of his career,All-Pro 6 times if I am correct.Dave Wilcox, Chris Hanburger, Dave Robinson and Nick Buoniconti are all in the HOF, and I would say Howley was better than all of those 4

2-Drew Pearson-First team on the All-1970's team, had excellent numbers from 74-77 when it still was a run first league, and had as many clutch plays over his career as any WR from that era.Lynn Swann is in for his spectacular catches but Drew was a better WR

3-Harvey Martin-with the inducting of some of these pass rushers recently, Harvey certainly outperformed most of them-Fred Dean, Chris Doleman, Richard Dent, Elvin Bethea are all in the HOF, and a strong case can be made for Martin. His 1977 was one of the best ever by a DE(20 or 23 sacks, depending on the source)

4 Cliff Harris-another first team all 1970's playey, other than Kenny Houston, the best Safety of that era.Physical and a good ball hawk, he was a vital part of those Cowboys defenses.

A few that are real close are Cornell Green, Ed Jones, Lee Roy Jordan and John Niland from that era as well

Pearson and Harris are the only two members of the 1970s All-Decade First Team that are not in the Hall of Fame. Add Howley and Martin.
