Nate jones released...

Thanks for the info re Jones not having to clear waivers. I was wondering that myself and was about to ask. I knew veterans don't have to clear waivers but wasn't sure if Jones in his 4th or 5th year and whether he considered a vet. It makes sense. We re-sign him sometime tomorrow afternoon with probably a small bonus for his trouble -- $5-$10,000. Good move.

BTW: There's no way we would have cut Brown. Cowboys like him and we'd definitely lose him on waivers.

Nate Jones DOES NOT have to clear waivers which is why he was released.

Tell me more about this rule, JT. Please.

no it wont, because he wasnt that good

he was a frange player...fringe players come and go

and if Newman is ready to play, Jones might not have been active anymore anyway

Whether he was "that good" or not is irrelevant. If he was released then that's one less person at that position, thereby effecting our DEPTH at the position, especially considering he wasn't the last person on the depth chart at that position.

Apparently Nate Jones is at the bottom of the depth chart. They must feel Oglesby is the better cover guy and has had enough time in the system. I really can't believe that Jones is getting so much "luv". Most wanted to cut him in training camp.

I like Nate Jones. He doesn't get glaringly toasted and Parcells said he was always one of the most prepared players on his team.

If this waiver thing is true it's a 24 hours wink you get signed back to roster tomorrow move. I doubt Parakeet is going to jump ship to an unkown team for a few $.

don't understand why you would cut someone who has been active for both weeks and not someone who has been inactive (i.e. berger).

It's an odd move if Newman isn't ready to play.

I mean we have what 3 healthy corners on the roster right now?

I was under the impression that guys only went on the waiver wire if they had three years or less in the league. Nate Jones has more experience than that. Doesn't he just become a free agent?

And if he doesn't go on waivers, didn't the Cowboys just let him know they were releasing him for the day so they could get him back tomorrow? I think too much is being made of this.

Vested veterans become free agents(not sure how many that takes but Nate only having three full season makes him a waiver guy)

He doesn't need to clear waivers (at least I don't think so). If he doesn't, I'm sure Jerry Jones talked to him before releasing him. The guy may have assured JJ he'll resign and they probably struck up a deal before he was even released.

The choice of releasing Jones probably has more to do with their trust in Jones to keep his phone off tonight and tomorrow and less to do with who they might like less. They will most likely throw a few dollars his way for that trust.

Didn't we do this with someone like Bill Bates before because we knew he would resign? Might not have been Bates as that was a long time ago. I think I remember a player willing to get cut and resigned in similar situations before.

It doesn't have to mean anything, but I was just looking at transactions throughout the league. A lot of younger guys were "waived" today. Nate Jones was "released" by the Cowboys...

I don't really think he goes on waivers, and I think that's the reason he was the guy let go.

I'm with dbair and a few others on this one. Nate Jones has never shown me ANYTHING. Nothing whatsoever guys. I wouldn't worry about it. If he's claimed, then Oglesby will be just as avg. as him. And, like others have speculated: hopefully Tnew will play ASAP!

He showed you nothing? Thats such a generic statement. He has been on the field some as nickel corner past few years. Well guess what, if you don't notice a cornerback he's usually doing his job.

Unless he figures he'll just get cut again seven weeks from now.

Way to go, Nors. Good point.

If Jerry Jones and Co. really wanted to resign Jones tomorrow, they'd have been smart to sign him to a new contract today with a reverse poison pill in it...... Next year's salary is guaranteed at the franchise tender rate if he plays more than eight regular season games outside the state of Texas or east of X parallel (whatever's between Irving and Houston).

Want a mulligan?

This move just brings back into question why in the world would we cut Aaron Glenn instead of Jones. I never got that one anyway.

That was a stupid move. Jones is not even good enough to worry about losing and we cut Aaron Glenn:confused:
