Nate Newton calls for switch to 3-4 scheme

It's taken a while but finally, many are coming round to the theory that you cannot play Parsons as a DE in a 3 point stance. This process of moving to this scheme should have started last season, to get the best out of Parsons. Jesse Holley on the same show (Hanging with the boys) concludes we do not have the players to make this work. But Nate quite rightly states the DEF should be about trying to get Parsons free.

'He will never be a DE' Nate Newton

Why has our front office not realised this?

Its really hard to run an odd front in passing situations in todays NFL. 3-4 teams run a 4 man line in Nickel and Dime. Even Wade had stopped using an odd front in passing situations with the Ram, and odd fronts were a staple of his zone blitz scheme

There are plenty of times when an odd front is needed. Teams are running the ball still

There is nothing with an odd front. Its just you arent going to use it 65% to 70% of the plays. And thats where Parsons is going to be a DE.

Tbh, Id rather him not be a 3-4 OLB. They are basically just stand up DE's. Id just prefer they play him at LB on running downs. Play Lawrence and Kneeland as your DE's

Parsons strength is rushing the passer. But not every down. As a DE, teams know he is rushing every down.

But they should have with Parsons, why has the team not realised that?
Parsons isnt a 3-4 LB. A 3-4 OLB is basically a stand up DE. He wouldn't play the run much if any different as an OLB in a 3-4. If you want to play him properly as a run defender, then you play him as an OLB in an even front on run downs

Dallas doesnt have the personnel to run a 4-3 defense either apparently
Dallas D-line isn't good enough inside, some of us on this forum has been saying that for years, too bad the GM can't see that, the clue that Zimmer was bringing in street players to play DT should have been a clear sign to you about that...The 4-3 is better for Micah because you can move him all over the Dline..

If you don’t want to fill gaps, shed blocks, play your assignments, follow your keys, and make physical tackles, it won’t matter a lick what scheme you run: you will still suck

And that is the problem with this D right now: we got a lit of soft, finesse players that don’t want to be physical at the point pf attack and make the other team dread playing you.

Our culture, mindset, and focus are all broken and wrong

So we want mazi to be a 2 gap nose when he can't even handle a 1 gap shade? Talk about gashing the middle. Center alone can man handle the nose while the guards molest the middle line backers. The personel just isn't there.

Exactly. Formation doesn't matter when you can't follow your assignments. These guys can't even tackle right anymore.

That said, I agree with the general premise that a 3-4 would greatly benefit our best player on defense, and it's the right move next year. Parsons has HOF talent but he's wasted on the line.

No way. This defense definitely does not have the personnel and size to switch to a 3-4. Nate just made himself look bad.
I agree, BUT Nate might have stumbled onto something. I think a hybrid version of a 3-4 can free him up. We MUST get creative on D. SOMETHING ZIMMER doesn't do. At the same time, your right, we lack the personnel. Heck, we don't even have the right players to run a 4-3 lol.. they just aren't up to snuff.
