Also was she wearing the wrong Manning's number or did the 18 signify something?

Much ado about nothing.

As long as the rendition of it is respectful, I have no issues with it.

The poem was not originally written for the music, which was added on after the fact. Based on an BRITISH song.

While popular, it wasn't used officially til 1916 or 1931, depending on your interpretation.

And the complaints are somewhat late to the party, if this chunk of the wiki is accurate:

"The first popular music performance of the anthem heard by mainstream America was by Puerto Rican singer and guitarist Jose Feliciano. He shocked some people in the crowd at Tiger Stadium in Detroit and some Americans when he strummed a slow, bluesy rendition of the national anthem before game five of the 1968 World Series between Detroit and St. Louis. This rendition started contemporary "Star-Spangled Banner" controversies. The response from many in Vietnam-era America was generally negative, given that 1968 was a tumultuous year for the United States. Despite the controversy, Feliciano's performance opened the door for the countless interpretations of the "Star-Spangled Banner" heard today."

I didn't care for her rendition. I like Queen Latifah just fine. She seems like a pleasant person. But, in my limited opinion, she doesn't have the right kind of voice for the national anthem.

I laughed hysterically when Tony Romo wondered out on the field too early while she was still singing.

She has a pleasant voice and she did just fine. I like freedom and creativity, even with the anthem. As long as the singer can sing and knows the words or as long as the musician can play, I don't lose any sleep over the different renditions.

Wow, I just watched it for the first time as I missed it before. That was horrendous! The last part where she repeats "home of the brave" and "brave" like 4 times was wayyyyyyy over the top. Good grief...

I tought it was alright, I kind of thought the crowd was too loud during the singing, took something away from it. I would have see it again, cause I was a few suds deep already.

"butchered" is spot on. But it wasn't the artist's fault - even if it was her idea - someone in the PR department gave this awful arrangement the OK. That is who needs to have some taste in this situation.

i take it somewhere in my post you saw where i said they play the national anthem at military funerals?..NO?...i didnt see it either......

I was pointing out to someone who obviously dont know any better that the anthem is to show respect for soldiers and love of Country and that is why it is performed at sporting events .... something that is lost on many of the young people of today

Coy is not even cute in children. Stop. You showed a picture of a bugler at a military cemetery.

In those circumstances when the armed services are paying their respects for the fallen, they play taps. The star spangled banner is not the military's theme song.

When the SSB is played the military plays the role of the color guard. The idea in that is that they protect the flag, they protect our country, etc. The idea is not selfaggrandizing. It's an honor to have such duty but the anthem is not sung in their honor.

If you want to make the anthem about paying your respects for our soldiers then more power to you but showing a picture of a military bugler at a funeral in regards to the national anthem just says you have no idea what you are talking about.

You know which female singer who I think would've done a real good job singing th National Anthem?

I'll give you hint she's beautiful, blonde, and her name rhymes with a college in Texas. I think y'all can guess. ;)

Defend our national anthem is it now? Against what? Your idea of musical taste?

I am not offended by anything other than non-truths.

I am pointing out that the underlying basis and the entire point you are trying to make is just plain wrong. That's not nit-picking. That's demonstrating how you have no point whatsoever.

It's the NATIONAL anthem not the military anthem no matter how many military funerals you show pictures of.

Deal with it.
