Great photo.

Several different observers on the Sports Animal from OKC are saying OU made a tremendous last-minute rush and has a good class? (And they aren't homers, either.) I guess they got some kids they didn't expect to get.

I will say this -- If I were an OU fan, I'd be a little concerned about getting all these WRs the ball. Just seems to me that they already threw the ball too much last year. I don't understand why more of the top-top-tier programs don't try to go the Alabama or even Stanford route and build a big O-line and get some RBs to run the ball over people.

That is part of what Mack Brown is trying to do in getting away from the spread offense.

Ha, I barely got my edit in before your quote. :)

Seems like a great move to me. One of the advantages of being a huge recruiting power is, or should be, getting the best linemen. And if you build a great line and running game, you aren't so dependent on young or just inferior QBs. (Again, see Bama.)

Anyway, I don't keep up with recruiting that closely, so I enjoy these threads where you diehards can let us all know how things are going.

Mack is smart enough to know who is winning the Championships in recent years. Last 6 being won by an SEC team. Texas was the last non SEC team to win the BCS

GO BUCKS!

Yep ... like seeing us get the D lineman back from Mich St. Did you see Dantonio whining about it?

It's pretty interesting. I read an article that said Texas could have gotten either Jamies Winston or Bo Wallace had they offered. As many of you know, Winston is the top rated Dual Threat QB in the nation, I think he signed with FSU. Wallace is the JC who threw for ridiculous numbers in JC. He also has experience. Either of these guys would have been considered good gets but Texas didn't offer either. This would seem to suggest that Texas either likes what they have at QB or they are they have their eye on somebody next year. It could be a next year thing for sure. They love Swoops and seems to be equally enamored with Texas. I don't know but I thought it was interesting.

and I see it more to do with Texas lack in the passing game. Teams can afford to play the run and take their chances vs Texas passing. If they can get that fixed the running game will do well

I do agree that Texas needs better QB play, but even when Colt McCoy was the QB they still could not run the ball very well. Texas has struggled on the offensive line for a few years now. Maybe some of those younger guys they got in the lineup this year along the line will help. It will take improvement in both QB play and offensive line play to get the Texas offense to be good and consistent.

True but Texas did not have the backs and really were pass 1st spread offense.

Right now teams are not worried about Ash or McCoy beating them they are stacking the line and daring Texas to throw. As for the OL many of them were 1st and 2nd year players and I felt did a pretty decent job.

I tend to discount recent years and how Texas ran the ball. Because they were so invested in the spread prior to last year, the OLs they recruited were really not guys who specialized in run blocking. They were good pass blockers and they were taught how to pass block, much more so then run block. Not an excuse, just an observation from watching a lot of Texas Football. 2008 to 2010, the running game was really Colt. Texas didn't recruit RBs who could carry the rock. They recruited backs who could pass block, catch the ball and were quick on the draw etc. Last year, that really changed. Texas recruited and played a lot of young OLs who are run blocking kind of lineman. They recruited big time down hill power backs who will punish the opposition. They made a real shift in what kind of offense they were going to be. I agree with you on the QB thing but I think the RB production in recent years was more a product of design then anything else. I am excited about seeing this Texas running game next year.

I do hope Brewer is the real deal Dooms. He looked horrible in the UA Game. I know that this is not indicative of what players will become but man, he looked bad. I hope that it was all concussion.

Let me say I don't expect him to start as a Freshman. I think Ash will be the starter and I know an off season in college football can do wonders for a young QB. He has a lot of work ahead of him but I think the Texas coaching staff will have him ready to go.

Texas really did a nice job late this year. Torshirosan, Daje Johnson, Dalton Santos, Bryce Cottrell, all in the past couple days. None of these guys were Texas leans. Torshiro was committed to LSU for over a year, Daje Johnson was committed to TCU, Santos was a Vol Commit for a year and Cottrell was committed to Oregon. Texas really did a nice job of going out and getting a few guy very late this year.

My pet cat of this Class is going to be Adrian Colbert. He's a 6'1" 195lbs Safety who runs a 4.4 flat and is coming to Texas on a track Scholarship. From what little I have seen, he is actually a hitter and he can play the ball. He has really good hands and he has a mean streak. Best of all, he actually wraps up. Nobody new about this kid until way late. Everybody thought he was a track guy until he sent his tape out. I think this kid might turn into a real good player. Maybe a guy who stars on Sunday. Seriously, he has those kinds of skills from what I've read.

I expect Texas to be one of the top teams in the Big 12 and hopefully a chance at getting the BCS in the next couple of years. For now my hope is the Big 12 title

I think OU is the front runner for the Big 12 this year but if we get some decent play out of our QBs, we can win it this year. We were way young last year. OU is losing some talent but they still have Landry who is probably the best QB in the conference. It could happen and in a couple of seasons, we could be playing for a title again.

With Landry Jones returning I have no doubt they will be the front runner but then they were the front runner this past season and it did not work out for them. :laugh2:

As you said the key will be getting decent play out of the QB spot. As for Texas defense I like what we have and expect that unit to only get better.

This is interesting Dooms. Jameis Winston, who was quoted earlier as saying that if had he been offered by Texas, he would have signed with them, has not signed his LOI to FSU. He has said that he is a solid FSU commit but he did not sign his letter and told FSU that he probably would not sign until perhaps as late as Wed of next week. This could be absolutely nothing and it probably does mean just that but, Winston is in Texas today and isn't it odd that he would make that statement at all if he were intent on signing with FSU?

I'm sure Nole fans are concerned. Winston is in Texas for an all star game so not sure that means much but stranger things have happened.
