Definitely had a strong draft. They are going to have an excellent backcourt next year. Harper will help them win games day 1.

Bryant is great long term two way player. I can becoming a Harrison Barnes type player. Especially now givin that Barnes is a Spur

If Castle improves his 3 pointer that he’s been working on, then they could make the playoffs this year. Probably would’ve made it last year if Wemby wouldn’t have gotten injured.

to Cooper Flagg.

And this young is not just your typical No.1 overall .. but what does that say for lad that was not only a sensational 18 yr one year wonder Freshman that just flat took the basketball world by storm, .but he was anointed the Nation's Top Player of the Year ..!!
* A brilliant combination of size, athleticism, great basketball IQ and knack for the game, even at his very young high school age.,..but he's also a very astonishing impressive stand out both way game on Both offense & defense ... and he's still growing physically,

- Now it's a matter of coaching (Jason Kidd & staff) & support cast personnel ... Unfortunately he won't have the benefit of Anthony " street clothes" Davis

- And kyrie Irving won't be available until mid season at some point in January.. .
so it seems only PJ .Washington, and a very streaky & inconsistent KlayThompson - so Flagg will need much more offesive power than what is on the current roster.
I wish we'd found a way ot keep Grimes, ..but than is now water under the bridge.

The wise course of action would be to Fire Nico, hire Ujiri.
Trade Kidd to the Knicks for a handful of 2nds, go get a Coach out of Carlisle's system.
Trade AD before he can get injured again for a quality shot creation Guard and at least 1 R1.

But they are clearly going to go for it this year which isn't insane just not maximal.

I don't like DLo at all but hard to argue at the price tag. I have thought he was soft since college.
He can buy you a couple months where he gets to cosplay at a star.

AD will still be overvalued in trade just due to skill set. Teams are in an arms race, and now is the perfect time to sell. Teams playing checkers will overpay for a player with AD's skill just because its gets them closer on paper

This would be terrible lol….you guys want Nico to pay for trading Luka but you make your team substantially worse and DLo is the worse good player I’ve ever seen in my life. Worse than Jr Smith. Very stupid basketball player.

It doesn’t make sense. What is the plan to hope those 5 first rounders are gonna be something? This way of winning hasn’t been proven to work. Unless you can get a Paul George deal where you get a potential MvP candidate in his early 20 and 7 first rounders….

JR. Smith was really a good basketball player for like half a season. Might be tje dumbest basketball player ever

Fun fact: In 2018, Smith, Nick Young and Javale McGee all played in the NBA finals. Thats year Smith famously blew game 1

So you are saying teams building through the draft doesn't work? Tell that to Orlando. Tell that the GS, who won 67 and 73 games before KD came abourd with a rotation of mostly drafted player. The best way to build a team is to load up on assets, develop young players and then aggressive moves once you at or near playoff contention.

The way the Mavs are operating right now is you several years in the middle of the pack with very little upward mobility. They need to rebuild. You wont win anything with Flagg unless they do. Winning 45-55 games and getting bounced in the 2nd round annually isnt winning anything

Add to that now is the PERFECT time to trade players for picks? Why? Because teams havent properly calibrated for the new CBA where both 1st and 2nd picks are significantly more valuable than before due to the need for young cheap talent to avoid the tax aprons. Teams are stupidly giving away an excesive amount of picks to get slightly closer for a year or two.

If the Mavs want to max out around Flagg for the amount of time they control gis contract, they need to stop playing checkers

No that’s not what I’m saying doesn’t work. I’m saying the teams that trade a star for future first round picks doesn’t work. I think people like it because we love the uncertainty and hope that the future brings. It’s the same pushback on trading Micah…yes three first rounders sound great until you realize you traded him to a contender that’s pitching in the late 20s.

Same thing with AD. You would be trading him to a contender that’s actively going all in and trying to win.

Orlando, GS are all homegrown talent. They didn’t trade a star for multiple picks to get better.

Mark my words Mavs will be a top 5 team next year. And will be even better the year after when Flagg gets even better who’s already NBA ready.
