We have enough big dumb athletes in professional sports. I’d be much less interested in professional athletes if they didn’t attend college and why I’ve lost much interest in NBA and MLB. I love the connection and allegiance to the universities they attended and played for. It’s a big part of the connection to them for their careers following them.
For the same reasons I get connected to kids I’ve followed since playing high school here in Texas following them on to college and those who go pro.
Who cares about an athlete who shows up from Europe or a Caribbean country to play professional sports who otherwise wouldn’t even be here. I’m always going to root for and follow the homegrown kid who attends and develops in our school systems which advances the Amateur level which is IMO the purest form of competitive sports in America.
