NCAA Tournament Thoughts

Being an Arizona fan, you have to know hoops fairly well. So you should never be surprised see a great team lose a few games. Even the great Bulls teams lost a few games way back when. And at the college level, well, kids are still kids and the other team can play lights out a pull an upset.

I do think AZ got some benefit of the doubt in getting in this year's tourney, but that may be because iI was pulling for them NOT to get in for selfish reasons. I'm a UNC grad and they own the record for most consecutive NCAA tourney appearances with 23. I think AZ now has 22 or 23 in a row; that was the chance to break their streak. I will say this, Dean Smith got half of his tourney appeareance back when conferences could only send 1 team....while the great Lute Olsen (and he is/was great) got almost all of his in the era when mutilple teams from a conference could get in.

I know, sour grapes. Congrats to AZ.

Arizona is now at 25 straight years in the Tourney. North Carolina holds the record at 27.

I am, that is true.

Let me ask you, if not UCONN, Pitt, Louisville and UNC, who would you say should have been the 4 top seeds?

Memphis should have been a #1 over uconn or pitt

OK, so then you would say, Memphis, UNC, Louisville and Pitt/UCONN?

Awfully tough call between those five teams. Pitt is really good this year, so I would say Memphis over UConn if any.

BTW, not much or any difference between a #1 and #2 seed.

So AZ will probably break it because this was the year for them to not get in...if at all. I noticed on TV both Hubie Davis (UNC) and Jay Bilas (Duke *******...hehe) thought AZ deserved to be in.

Trust me I wish we had never changed it. That name has alot of history behind it and it's the reason I became a basketball fan. I started watching basketball when Keith Lee was a freshman. Alot of great memories.

Stephen f austin is in big trouble....that is all I have to say!!

Andre Turner, Askew, I think Bedford might have been on that team as well. Dana Kirk was the HC I think.

Good team.

You'll never win until you make it right.

MSU.

Was that the team that ran into Bill Walton and maybe the best NCAA tourney performance ever?

No. Walton's UCLA team was much earlier. I believe that MSU team was 84 or 85. Yeags would know for sure.

Nope that was the 72 or 73 team. The team we are referring to was the '85 team.

On a side note, I have heard on and off that both Memphis and East Carolina are being considered for Big East membership. But I heard it was for football only....I can understand that for ECU, but i would think Memphis would be a decent basketball fit in the Big East.

The only way we will switch conferences is if they take us in both football and basketball. We have had those discussions before and turned them down and it was Coach Cal that made the decision.

I actually rooted for Memphis St.

Of course, they belonged to the Missouri Valley in those days.

I give them credit for getting out, but the one they are in now still isn't a biggie.
