We might be better off just hoping the packers lose, and lose often.

Packers are on a roll - don't see that happening at all.

We need Philly to win guys, the Giants have tiebreak over us and Philly doesnt.

Thus, we want the team that has the tiebreak on us to lose, ergo Giants.

We want the Iggles to win also for the possibility of a 3-way tie. The Giants have a slightly easier schedule than the Cowboys and Eagles, so it's possible the Giants could make those 2 games up even after a loss. However, Dallas would not be beat out by NY if it was a 3 way tie (and Dallas beats Philly & Was).

There's no 3-way tie scenario with a Giants win that we lose in terms of dropping out of the playoffs because of the inner division tie. Assume everybody beats WAS and we beat the Eagles to get to this 3-way tie, it comes down to the H2H record. Giants would win this at 3-1, we would be 2-2 and the Eagles would be 1-3 and therefore be eliminated. We would lose the next round of tiebreakers though. We'd then be either 5th or lose the tiebreaker to GB. In the next round for the 6th seed we'd then beat the Eagles again.

In a 3-way tie at 10-6 with the Eagles beating the Giants it comes down to the common games. And it could be getting crazy there. Assume us losing to SD and NO, winning against WAS and PHI. NY loses to Philly and wins out. Philly wins against NY and loses to us. Now if they beat SF and lose to Denver, they are out. If they lose to SF and beat Denver, we are out.
It's not a very likely scenario, but it is possible that we depend on who Philly wins and loses to.

I dont think it really matters what happens in the NYG-Philly game. Either way you look at it, a loss from either team helps the Cowboys. The key to the Cowboys season rides on their ability to win their reamaining 2 home games and beat a likely 3 win team on the road. It's that simple. Whatever happens in the NO game is gravy. Anything less than 3 wins from the Cowboys probably leaves them on the outside looking in, regardless of what happens in the upcoming NY-Philly game.

I can see it all now, the Giants beat the Eagles etc and it comes down to the last game of the year to decide who gets the last playoff spot ...and as fate will have it, the game is close to the last minute and Donovan throws a bomb to Desaen J which bounces off Jenkins shoulder and into Jackson's arms as the gun goes off....such is the luck of this team...
I just hope this nightmare never materializes but have we not all seem starnger things happen?

Dallas just has to win, they do that and everything will take care of itself. Right now we still control their own destiny

I'm sure this has been said before but the more I think about it, I'm not so sure that we dont want New York to win. This would hurt our chances at the division title but may in fact increase our chances/lower the amount of wins that we need to get to reach the playoffs.

If NY wins all we have to do is go 2-2 these last four games as long as one of those wins is against philly and we are in the playoffs.

If Philly wins that puts the giants at 7-6. assuming the giants win the rest of their games, that would put them at 10-6. for this argument i will assume philly wins until they play us that would put their record going into the last game at 11-4. if we go 2-2 and beat philly in this scenario we are on the outside looking in.

If we go at least 3-1(which i believe is entirely possible) this argument is moot, but unless i am mistaken( again entirely possible) the giants winning this week would help us more in the long run

P.S. After writing this, I am starting to feel a little better about our chances of getting into the dance when all is said and done.

100% accurate in my opinion. This is the exact scenario I was running on the Playoff Generator before I read your post. If the Giants win out, then the Eagles win out after losing to the Giants this week (excluding against us of course), we would still be in by beating the Commanders and Eagles (EVEN if we lost to both the Chargers and Saints). In my opinion, this is the best scenario. Plus, if the Cardinals keep playing like they are and grab that #3 seed, I would much prefer to go Arizona as opposed to New York or Philly. I think the #6 seed is actually better than the #5 seed this year (of course, assuming Arizona gets the #3, which I think they do).

I'll root for Giants. but does it really matter? A loss to the Chargers puts us at 8-5 and I see the whole season falling off a cliff as usual.

What the Cowboys really need is to IGNORE the giants vs Eagles game and finish out december this way to win the Division and make the playofs

Chargers-W
Saints-L
Commanders-W
Eagles-W

I agree and I'm still cvonfused why this thread was even started when the Cowboys game is at 4pm and the Eagles/Giants play at 8pm.

I can see if the Giants were playing at the Meadowlands at 1pm but since they are not this thread should have been created at 7:30pm on Sunday Night after a Cowboys Win over the Chargers to go to 9-4.

The Eagles will beat them.

They can't cover.

The Eagles will beat them bad.

You wait and see.

In this scenario, we lose the division if the Giants win out. We really screwed ourselves by getting swept by the G-men this year, it basically gives them an extra win. Considering that if we are tied with the Giants, we lose, the real standings in the NFCE is as follows....

Dallas........8-4
Philly.........8-4
Giants........8-4 (Giants have 5 losses, but get an extra W due to tiebreak)

We are basically in a 3 way tie right now for the division. You can really see how costly losing division games are, especially getting swept by a division rival. It is actually like having another W basically. Think of it this way, losing to the Giants this past Suday was the equivalent of losing a third time to them.
