Need more Rod Smith

Is he banged up or something? I'm not entirely sure why he's not being used more. We can all sit around and talk about how good Zeke is as a runner and a blocker, but Zeke doesn't seem to be a great pass catcher. He's taken a couple screens to the house, but other than that, not much else.

Last year Rod Smith not only showed he can be an effective runner, but also a really good pass catcher. He was also showing this in the preseason as well.

I get Zeke is a 3 down back due to his blocking ability, but we have to find a way to get Smith in the game at some point - at the very least, so he can catch those dumpoffs that Dak loves. Getting 1 yard a catch from Zeke isn't going to cut it.

Yes, that is the answer. Rod Smith.

I get your schtick is being a smart ***, but since we aren't ridding of Dak Prescott, I'd would like to get enough weapons out there that can play to his limited game.

Getting a nice receiving threat out of the backfield helps.

No my "schtick" is recognizing Rod Smith is a roster filling scrub who helps you win nothing.

And you want to take Zeke Elliott off the field for that guy.

Call it a day, Matt.

I want an effective receiver on the field. Because it doesn't seem like Hurns or Williams are showing up, we aren't bringing in a savior at WR at this point, and we aren't getting a better QB.

Having a player out there there that you can put in the slot (we did it with Smith last year) or get yards out of the backfield can at least result in moving the chains. Our deep ball isn't there, hell our intermediate passing game isn't there, and Zeke sure as hell isn't doing much as a receiver....

And you're the dope who wanted Reggie Wayne a couple years ago when he could no longer run. You can't evaluate. Stop talking football.

Either make a valid counter or ****. NEXT!

If we want more options in the passing game, I personally would like to see Austin take a few passes in the flat with him and Elliot both on the field.

He got hurt last night. Wrist, I think.

Austin needs to be utilized more, I agree. However, Linehan should be able to get Zeke, Smith, and Austin involved in the game - especially with how our offense seems to be built with these quick screens and Dak looking for short passes and dump offs.

More Rod Smith doesn't give us anything. If anything, it should be more Zeke.

You can't give anymore to Zeke....

He's not getting it done as a receiver. 1.8 yards a catch? There is no reason to utilize him more here, he's just not a dynamic receiving threat. Maybe throw him a couple passes on a screen and hope he takes one to the house, because running a route tree, doesn't seem to be getting us anything.

Austin and Smith bring more to that area than Zeke.

Zeke averages less than 40 targets per season, so how much is he supposed to do with them? He can't throw it to himself.

I remember Smith's TD against the Giants last year too. He'll probably never do anything like that again.

Rod Smith belongs right where he is — on the bench or STs. The only way he gets on the field otherwise is if Zeke needs a breather after multiple long gains or if (God forbid) Zeke gets injured.

None of the passes RS might receive are different than those targeting Zeke...and the results would likely be worse, not better.

Smith had six games last season as Zeke’s replacement. All I saw was an average JAG.

That screen pass to Zeke on 3rd and 20 is as predictable as me getting out of bed at 7:30 AM on most days.

It's predictable, but it's something Zeke has had success with in the past. Pretty sure he scored that 70 yard touchdown on a long down against Pittsburgh, right? Doesn't matter if it's predictable if our guys pick up the blocks.

There needs to be a better checkdowns for Dak though - because we sure as hell aren't getting much in the deep or intermediate game. Austin & Smith (if he's healthy) would be nice additions.

We ran Zeke 17 times and threw it to him eight, so essentially there weren't enough touches for the backs to get Smith into the game. Rod's role is to give Zeke a break if we have to use him too much. We haven't done enough on offense for Zeke to need a break.

If Smith is a JAG, what the hell is Zeke? Zeke averaged 4 YPC, while Morris averaged more YPC. Zeke is also not someone running many routes nor have I ever seen him line up anywhere else outside of the RB position and make a play.

Maybe, just maybe, Zeke isn't as outstanding as we all think he is?
