Need to be patient with the defense

Only 3 starters from last year with an entire new coaching staff. It wasn’t pretty. It was ugly. Just like last year as soon as the opposition got the ball you knew it would lead to a TD. On offense there were too many dropped passes again and they couldn’t run the ball. And too many penalties all together. Fortunately it’s just game 1 and Parkers defense should get better.

You yahoo’s who have already given up? :lmao2:
Hahahaha how come the Giants had brand new coaching staff and system and they didn’t struggle?

didn't we say that the last 2 years or more? "Be Patient?" That said, it's true, this is a year of great change, flux at D. It's going to be ugly at times. Heres why. We clearly lack the right players to play any sound scheme, let alone, this version of the 3-4. What was exposed last night was just that. Many of these players don't belong starting. We need a Detrich-Wise kind of DE/OLB 3-4 guy. A big body that can stay upright and not get washed. We don't have that. In fact, we need 2 guys like that to fix the d. Also, whats clear is Winters and Overshown aren't the answer. We have no linebackers outside of Barham that can play. The corners are trash. At best, Durant is ok. Our safeties are decent enough with Downs and that will get better. We lack too many good players on defense to run any scheme effectively.
Talk about knee jerk reactions. Declaring all that after 1 game?

You did it after one practice

Cowboys defense dominating Rams. Their biggest play was a 12 yard out. This is great news that some won’t get it because many don’t think training camp and preseason counts. This scrimmage counted for a lot. The Cowboys showing that they aren’t the same defense as last year.

How long you want to give them? Yes they will get better but to come out as bad as they did and give them an excuse for that atrocious play let’s everyone off the hook. Didn’t they have preseason and practices?
Again I didn’t expect perfection in game 1 but to look like they didn’t belong on the field against an average Giants defense there is no excuse for that.

Also the Giants had more penalties then they did so can’t use that excuse.

IM not the only one who didnt get the joke Jazz.

Do you really think after what this fan base has endured that joking about last nights performance is going to land well?

Your posting history also suggests you werent joking. So sorry if I assumed.

Do you actually think this defense just needs more time? And that will solve all of the problems?
Another one giving up on the season. :lmao:

I hope they can turn things around, but this is a total rebuild. Temper your expectations.

I know we were all hoping it would be a night and day defense rolling into the season, but it was also unrealistic to expect that.

So they come in with a base 3-4 defense (not so great against power running) and what appears to be a poor plan to stop a power running type offense. The giants exploit this and it opens up the passing game. Throw in some just awful defensive play in the flats and game over. Even if Pickens catches that gimme at the end of the first half, they still lose. The offense outside of Williams was not ready to play.

The Cowboys didn't play well on all 3 phases and committed tons of penalties. I don't see any problem with having some negative reactions to the game last night.
Only ones who would defend something like that are the ones okay in life with mediocrity

My disappointment was that I was expecting to see competent defense. I knew we had questions at the pass rush spot and in the secondary, so what I expected was a defensive game where we looked well coached but our limitations showed.

That's not what we got. We got a defense that looked utterly confused, a DC that seemed incapable of adjusting, etc. We did not look well coached at all going up against a decent, not great Giants offense.

That's what scares me.

Look across that field. The Giants are also a team with talent deficiencies all over the place, but they looked much better coached on both sides of the ball, which isn't surprising given they have a great HC and coordinators. We still have massive questions on our coaching staff.
