Negative Town?

Not just you at all. Some people are talking about a wild card when we have a chance to win the division. We control our own destiny, but all they talk about is what can go wrong without acknowledging what can go right. If we do win the East, they will look back and realize they forgot to enjoy the ride.
Probably because until it happens, we can only go on history.

No matter what, man, these next two weeks are going to be great. This is what it's all about. With all the offseason stuff there is to disagree about, these are the money games that make the NFL so great. And we've got a legitimate shot here. I honestly don't know what's going to happen this week, and I can see anything from a close game going either way to a butt-whooping going either way. It's going to be awesome.

I know, this upcoming game on Sunday night has many characteristics of a playoff game, so it's really a matter of enjoying it as one. What so many fail to realize is that only one team can win the SB in any year. As such, you MUST enjoy the journey and not focus exclusively on the end result because you won't get very much enjoyment out of football otherwise. I think this team has the ability to win the East and do great things in the playoffs, including winning a title, and I'm going to fully enjoy each game from here on out because they're all important, they'll all have a playoff feel to them.

I also know this - it feels so much better going into this stretch of games having this mini-bye, a subsequently much healthier Romo and team in general, a strong running game and a high-effort (albeit not good at pressuring the QB right now) defense compared to what we've had in recent years when we've gotten to must-win week 17 games. Depleted defenses, Orton having to start, etc. No sir, we've got everything we could possibly hope for and I'm truly looking forward to seeing what this team can do with this opportunity. I think having ten days to prepare for the Eagles, rather than two and a half, especially knowing what we now know about the state of Romo's health heading into that game, IS going to make all the difference in the world. I felt like Romo was practically shouting that at his post-game press conference in Chicago - the Eagles are good, we are better if given a level playing field. We'll find out soon - how can it get any better than this?

I am staying neutral until after this week's game...playoff scenarios can go in a 100 directions as of this moment...must beat philly!

if GB has the #1 seed locked up by that time (most likely), they may not even see Rodgers Week 17.

Agree with your premise but this isn't about concern. It's about season's over posts and the assumption that everything will go right for every team and everything will go wrong for only one.

I don't believe your above quote is accurate. Only way GB has the 1 locked up is if Det loses one of the games you have them winning. If they go in with their current number of losses then GB would have to beat them because they've already lost to them.

Sorry, my point wasn't clear. I was basing that on the premise that i see no way Detroit finishes less than 11-5. If they lose a game and the Packers beat the bad opponents they have, GB will have clinched by Week 17. If Detroit wins the next 2, they still finish 11-5 with a loss to the Packers. Neither scenario is favorable.

Just me, or did this forum make a turn to negative town this weekend? Man alive. I swear some of you guys think we lost to the bears are the worst team in the NFL and are 9-4 by sure luck.

It's the age old adage: Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. This team has put the fan base through the wringer multiple times, I think it's only natural to be skeptic. Granted, there are some that are over the top negative and they're idiots.

I'm all positive here! I'm going all the way on this! All or nothing. This team has proven 9 times it can get it done and I have no doubt we can add to that count vs Philly.

It is strange when you figure most here did not even expect Dallas to be in this position to compete for the division. Hell enjoy the ride all of you who have dismissed this team from day one they have gone well past any of your expectations of 4-12 or 6-10.

It means 78%. There are lots of games left to be played. Not everybody is going to get to 11-5, obviously. We win our easiest two, and there's still 4 chances in 5 we're in the playoffs when it's all said and done.

Thank you! Some people just don't understand the probability concept.

This surprises you?

This is the time when those who are 100% invested in being right are going to come in talking about how we're done and this and that. They have to come in now so that if Dallas doesn't win out, and misses the playoffs, they can crow and beat their chests about being right.

Anyone actually surprised by this hasn't paid a lick of attention to these forums over the last few years.

Yeah but the 22% I admit scares the hell out of me. lol There are so many teams that are 9-4 or better.

I'm certainly not arguing that the 22% will make a lot of folks nervous given our past generation of poor outcomes. I'm just anal when it comes to probability/odds, etc...the numbers are what they are.

My expectations are in *Middletown*

I say we get in at 11-5 with some "Help."

I get that, I think 11 wins just may do it. For Dallas they can't take the time to think about the 3 games ahead of them they need to focus on the next game. Win next week and we sit in the cat birds seat.

If we would have taken care of business against the Dreadskins folks would be much more positive right now.

Well, my degree in math says I understand probabilities :D

Those numbers are not cut and dry, it is an independent event and we need dependent events to occur. The 78% looks great and all but not when the other teams around us are near 100%, that is all I was getting at. If we lose to Philly, we will need some help. Other teams are in a much better situation due to tie-breakers and have more room for error.

To me, there's nothing we can do about going 11-5 and not making the playoffs. Doesn't mean that we didn't have a good season, particularly considering what we all thought of this team before the season.

To me, it's about progress. Either you're making progress, you're not making progress or you're so good that you can't top what you're doing. We're making progress and that's a great thing. Once we stop making progress and we're not a great team, that's when I start to become negative.

The Eagles are the Demon haunting the Cowboys. Until that Demon is sent back to Hades where it belongs. The haunting will continue.

There are two points here.. It says alot that the Cowboys could go 11-5 and still be out of the playoffs. In all the down years of the NFCE or the NFC as a whole, it would be THIS year where the Cowboys could have their best regular season record since 2007 and don't make it to the postseason.

Having said that, I'm going to go quote Mr. Sturm, because the negativity on this site would be totally different if this fact were the opposite.

The Cowboys still have a chance. And that is all you can ask for with three weeks to go.
