No joke- in a thread here quite a while back, somebody asked when we thought Zeke would sign, and I said September 1.

If it really happens, I'm going to give myself a "good guess" pat on the back.;)

Wow ....... So you think using up and then cutting Demarcus Ware with 2 years left on his contract is ethical ........ but Zeke holding out of training camp isn't.

Oh I see ...... you just joined today when news of Zeke's imminent signing.

Hmmm
Yeah, players know that if they can't play well anymore, or their production drops off to the point where someone making 1/10 what they make can do a better job, they will get cut.

Do you really want a team filled with guys on the back ends of their contracts if they can't cut it anymore? Or even if their production has just dropped off?

Again, that's why they get signing bonuses. That's severance pay to cover the years that they might not get to. That's more than fair.

And when the Cowboys can't sign anyone in free agency and can't even extend their own draftees, the "whistle past the graveyard" and "pay the man" crowds will complain about the FO not getting Zeke and Dak any help.
They don't sign big free agents anymore..they have like a hundred million in cap space next year. They can do whatever they want in regards to payroll

Actually they are down to around $74 million in cap space next year, and we know the Zeke deal is going to take a big chunk out of that. And if the Dak and Amari deals also get done, the Cowboys won't be able to do that much.

BULL

Signing bonus's are for the team .... so they can spread the hit out over years and control the cap hits ....... it was not invented by players ........ but the same owners who cut said players with years left on their contracts and then demand players to honor the full terms of said contracts .......

The NFL is the only place where contracts are one sided because the owners have a monopoly and complete control without any overseeing.

And clueless fans defend them and vilify the players.

Who do we sign in free agency except the clearance sale guys anyway. We haven't signed a starter from free agency in years.

Because the players are grossly overpaid. Player salaries have gone up by a ridiculous amount over the last 25 years. Not one player who gets a second contract will ever have to work a day in his life post football - and neither will his kids.

Quit acting like these guys are some poor working class schlubs. They're rich men. Even if they get cut they're doing better than 99% of the population when it comes to money.

Again you can win without a top flight runner if you have an elite qb or/and an elite defense.

WHICH ONE DO WE HAVE?
Personally, with our O line I would have looked to trade Zeke and roll with Pollard/McCoy or Ajayi. Save the money, draft a RB next year and focus on building up our defense by signing Jones, save money for LVE and maybe dabble in FA with the money we save on Zeke.

Even when we had Zeke our offense was mediocre, our defense is much closer to being elite than the offense and elite defenses win more championships than an elite RB. We’ve seen defenses shut Zeke and the offense down on more than one occasion. After Lawrence had surgery and with the emergence of LVE, Jaylon, Jones, Collins and hopefully Quinn...I think this defense can be really good and if we can add just a few more pieces it could be elite if it’s not already.

And the same cannot be said of these owners who are cryi9ng poverty?

Hell last year Jerry bought a boat that cost more than the entire rosters salary ...... and he is not even close to one of the richest owners in the league.

And the owners are the ones who make up the salary cap number ....... they can make it whatever they want it to be.

Even if Zeke signs this weekend, I think the Cowboys use a roster exemption for him while he proves he’s ready to play and gets a refresher on the latest nuances of Moore’s offense. No way, IMO, that Zeke plays vs the Giants. It’s not about just being in shape.
