HOA's suck. Especially when the economy sucks and you can't sell your home to move out of the HOA to get away from idiot neighbors. Just sayin.

I hear ya, .. idiot neighbors are everywhere though. Or at least can be.

When we lived in Arlington, the redneck directly across the street would have garage parties, every weekend, and play the music so loud that our windows would vibrate. This, in turn, caused the huge black lab, next door, to sit under my newborn son's window and howl all night long. Man, I hated my neighbors. All of them. I was so glad when the Marines decided to transfer us.

I feel your pain with horrid neighbors.

Good thread..... I've been needing some advice. The neighbors next door have this makeshift soccer net that is out in the front yard. It's probably 4' high by 8' wide or so. I say front yard, it's actually on my side of their drive way, but is technically their yard.

Throw a little wrench into it. The neighbor used to be a client of ours (small town). I'm trying to come up with a socially acceptable (and polite) way to ask them to get that ****ing thing out of my sight!!! :laugh2:

It's about the biggest eyesore on the street.

Scumbag neighbors are horrible. Unfortunaterly, these scumbags can and do breed. And their kids are even worse.

Sometimes, I wonder if some investor doesn't intentionally plants these idiot neighbors to drive the property values down and come in later and buy the properties cheap.

And these scumbag neighbors who are always doing stupid and illegal stuff are the first to call the cops on someone else.

I would start by contacting the city to see if there are laws about leaving things in the yard. There is in my town. You cannot park vehicles in your yard, or leave things like couches, busted up washing machines, etc. Every so often the police leave warnings in the mailboxes to remove them or suffer a fine.

Put it at the other end of the yard?

Depositing some excrement about once a week into the net might send the message. There must be some dog in the neighbourhood leaving deposits somewhere.

Accidentally hit it with your truck.

I hear ya.

I don't believe all HOAs suck, I just think there are some that are abusive.

Well, I can tell you a little trick I did. A neighbor across ths street had a loser son (about 20) who would shoot basketballs at a stand up net at night with drunk friends. Used to piss me off because they would play in the street right in front of my house. Then the thing kind of broke and they didnt fix it, yet it stayed there.

Once a month we have a bulk trash collection and the night before, I made a sign that said " Bulk trash, please take" and taped it to the pole.

By the end of the next day, the eyesore was no more.

I'm not saying you should do this, but if it ever becomes trash, maybe you can expedite it's departure.

If it's something kids play with, suck it up and endure it. There's no neighborly way to ask, and you're just going to irritate the wife with an imaginary slight of her kids or her parenting decisions.

No they don't. Anything designed to maintain your property value as high as possible is a good thing.

I wish I knew what my HOA does other than hold a fish fry that I'd never go to or have a yearly yard sale that screws up traffic flow in and out of the subdivision. My HOA dues aren't that much but I would like to see something that they do with the money.

That's the thing I forgot to mention. I've lived here three months, and have yet to see them use the thing. The only thing that they do with it is move it from one side of the driveway to the other when they cut the grass.

Mine likes to send me random notices about my yard not being cut...with no date or timestamp.

I have a yard service. Ish gets cut when they cut it and not a day sooner.

I know we have a nice MUD building that we can rent out for parties and they have monthly meetings. Other than that, *shrug*
