I base that statement on the fact that what you said was wrong

That is correct they are and 95% of America (football fans) will identify them as such

What does profit have to do with fan base?

You said Commanders have the largest fan base correct? That is compete rubbish. You couldnt be more wrong

http://www.harrisinteractive.com/harris_poll/index.asp?PID=604

They are #13 according to that

you're basing it on a poll that asks 2300 people to represent the entire country?

pretty funny.

As well, even is this poll were accurate with such a low sampling over such a large area it would show that the Green Bay Packers are the most popular team.

It's such a ridiculous self proclaimed title. "we're America's team".

The only thing that would make sense is that there are "some" and I won't say "all" Cowboys fans that are so arrogant they'd actually make that type of claim. I think many have the perception of Cowboys fans being really arrogant. I don't think most Cowboys fans are arrogant but quite a few of them are. Saying something like were "America's" team is a perfect example.

"What does profit have to do with fan base?"

Without a fan base you don't generate much profit.

Thats how every poll known to mankind works, they are usually pretyy accurate. You are the one saying the Commanders have the most fans prove it give us something to prove you are right

According to you he Commanders had the most fan, and the poll is as accurate as any poll, and Green Bay fell to 4th this year (1st last year)

It's such a ridiculous self proclaimed title. "we're America's team".

The title isnt self proclaimed but nice try

Stating the fact that we are Americas tem is not arrogant it is the truth. We get the best ratings, are among the top in merchandice. most popular team, come 2009 will be the most valiable franchise since that is important to you

Prices and assets (stadium) are what create profit. Commanders prices are among the highest in the league

If I sell 10 people an item for 10 bucks I will make 100 dollars

You sell 9 people the same item for 12 dollars you make 108 dollars

I have more customers, you made more money. That is why your reasoning is wrong

Um no, had the US lost the War of 1812 there would be no United States. You need to read some history.

The US did lose the Battle of Quebec however which probably was all that kept Manifest Destiny from engulfing the enitre continent, you should be thankful those rag tag rebels were undersupplied and cold, you'd have states instead or provinces.

A poll is a sampling, yes, that's how every poll works. But polling the entire country with only 2300 people asked in regards to something as specific as "favorite football team" is pretty ridiculous.

But in any case I'll play along. So you say this year the Packers are no. 4? Do you have the link to the page?

Does that mean last year they were "America's team?". Who's "America's Team" this year? Did the Cowboys come up first in the tiny sampling??

So "America's team" is decided each year when Harris does it's little poll?

And yes it's self proclaimed. Fans of other teams don't go around saying "the Dallas Cowboys are America's team". That's a self proclaimed title arrogant Cowboys fans came up with. Kind of like arrogant Texans who act like Texas is it's own country.

If the Cowboys were "America's team" do you think it would be appropriate that "Americas quarterback" cried on the field during a playoff game?

I guess you could say the Cowboys have "Americas coach" since he's coached every team in the country.

But seriously "Americas team" is a completely arrogant and infactual claim. It just reinforces the arrogant Texan stereotype.

I don't hold all Cowboy fans responsible for the idiotic fans who initially came up with that little catch phrase.

We also lost the war in Vietnam and the war in Iraq.

A draw in the North Korean war.

But I fail to see how winning wars defines how great a country is.

Yeah right, in the DC/Virginia area perhaps. Come to think of it, there are many many many Cowboys fans in that area. The Cowboys definitely have the most fans, HANDS DOWN. Many of us have been fans for decades - so much for the bandwagon theory. If it is a bandwagon, a lot of us have yet to jump off. The Cowboys have the largest fan base. THE RATINGS PROVE IT. Some don't care to hear it, but why deny the obvious truth?

Actually NFL Films coined the phrase "America's Team". Seriously. The Cowboys didn't come up with it.

Generalizations and ignorance shine in your post.

The origin of the title "America's Team" is the work of NFL Films and not Cowboy fans. It is a nickname, nicknames are meant as endearments but I suppose they can piss people off as well.

The Texan pride finds origin in the fact that Texas was actually it's own republic at one point, the cultural pride in Texas is not so distinct as you claim. Nationalism and regional pride are not unique to Texas, Manhattan is just as proud, the EU can't agree on a constitution because of nationalism coming back into the equation.

Sample polling is a flawed practice and I've never payed much mind to especially on a national level.

America likes winners and in a what have you done for me lately world it wouldn't surprise me if dallas' fanbase is down from a decade ago however tradition has named them "America's Team".

It is a source of pride for her faithful and a cause for the gnashing of teeth for those that despise the organization but it is the given nickname of the franchise despite any objections.

This isn't a political board so one must becareful with these assertions but I can assure you that the statements you have offered are general and without context. The Vietnam ordeal was a smashing military victory but a public relations loss that lead to American withdrawal.

The Iraq War is also a military triumph but the insurgents in a tattered third world country remain and the media again only shows the negative.

This is not a political board so I will not elaborate any further but to say the facts are not on your side.

interesting. I just wiki'd in and there's some truth to your NFL films story.

Apparently the name was offered to Pittsburg.

Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney dismissed the suggestion that the Steelers were America's Team before NFL Films gave it to the Cowboys. 'We didn't want that,' Rooney said. 'We're a Pittsburgh team. We feel strongly about that'[1]

I don't deny it's a nick name but it's not really based on reality. That's why I say it's arrogant.

If a team were to truly be America's team they'd need to be undeniably the most popular team, make the most money, have by far the largest number of fans. You wouldn't see their stadium full of fans from other teams on game day.

Dallas is what it is. A very popular team with a coach who's been all over the block. A receiver who actually stood on the Dallas star twice while a 49'er. A quarterback who cries on the field.

I won't deny there have be some truly great and classy Dallas teams though. This just isn't one of them and hardly America's team.

America's team USA on it or something.

The canon Wiki provides is no doubt inerrant;) however NFL Films already had dubbed Pittsburgh the "Team of the 70s" even though Dallas actually won more games in the 70s than even the Steelers, should you denounce this title? Anyhow the editor of the 1978 highlight reel wanted a snazzy title and noted that Cowboy fans were without fail across the country at every venue to see their beloved team. He chose the flattering mantle of "America's Team" without Art Rooney's permission, Tom Landry actually was intially opposed to this nickname because they were already the envy of the NFL and didn't want any more fodder to exist for opponents. He finally warmed to it however as the media took hold of it and ran with it.

Thus "America's Team" is forever synonymous with the Dallas Cowboys.

No more than using the same method and small sample size for presidental elections and yet they are usually accurate by a couple points

But in any case I'll play along. So you say this year the Packers are no. 4? Do you have the link to the page?
I already linked it, did you even bother to read?

Does that mean last year they were "America's team?". Who's "America's Team" this year? Did the Cowboys come up first in the tiny sampling??

LOL In case you didnt realize its not a revolving title, it is our title as given many years ago by a Philly writer working for NFL films

So "America's team" is decided each year when Harris does it's little poll?

No, but it is a good indicator of popularity, I am so glad you avoided my challenge to you to show us how the Commanders have the most fans.

And yes it's self proclaimed. Fans of other teams don't go around saying "the Dallas Cowboys are America's team". That's a self proclaimed title arrogant Cowboys fans came up with. Kind of like arrogant Texans who act like Texas is it's own country.

EVERYONE calls the Cowboys America's team, for you to deny it is to deny reality. Once again "self proclaimed" means we named ourselves that which is not true. Your envy is showing bud get a grip

If the Cowboys were "America's team" do you think it would be appropriate that "Americas quarterback" cried on the field during a playoff game?

Nobody in America cries?!?!?! Nice try at the jab though, at least one of our teams was in the playoffs huh

I guess you could say the Cowboys have "Americas coach" since he's coached every team in the country.

Just cant keep up with the debate can you

But seriously "Americas team" is a completely arrogant and infactual claim. It just reinforces the arrogant Texan stereotype.
No, not arrogant at all and very factual google the term and you will get millions of hits from every major paper in the country

You sure like to attempt to bash Texas, envy is a ***** huh.

I don't hold all Cowboy fans responsible for the idiotic fans who initially came up with that little catch phrase.

Again showing your lack of an IQ, no fans came up with the nickname

When you find a website from the NFL with terms and conditions of the use of the nickname "America's team" let us know ok. Until then deal with your penile envy in other ways

It just means the Cowboys are the only team arrogant enough to go around calling themselves "America's team".
