New Cowboy Broderick Jones Is A Lot Better Than People Think | Film Review

Several people talked about how he was going to concentrate on RT which they felt was the better fit for him.

Drink 'dat bottle of shut up juice
It doesn't matter though first you the only way to get on the roster and be valuable on game day is being the swing tackle They don't typically bring an extra right tackle an extra left tackle they bring a swing tackle that's what they're for why do you think there's a name for it?

They are they just also brought over a guy that they're gonna probably activate every game day He's also gonna challenge some people he's on the practice squad I'm telling you right now there's no shut up Juice what you can do is listen and if you don't want to then you can go away but I follow this team with a microscope and I'm telling you that Tyler Smith's not going back to left tackle unless it's a massive emergency hemorrhaging maybe to finish a game but he does not want to be there he has tendonitis in his knee he will not be the left tackle

he will not be the left tackle. It's as if that you only casually pay attention to the news that comes out and that has been discussed a lot by the team by the player he does not want to go to left tackle nor do I think he be successful out there because of his knee problem if you don't get that then that's your issue not mine...

I’m praying jones works out as I’m not confident at all in our current tackle situation but I can’t buy what this video is saying….although I’ll give the evaluator props here, he does seems to know OL play better than the average fan.

1) preseason games for a 4 year veteran are not reliable evidence of good play
2) small sample sizes for OL play are dangerous….even a bad OL is going to win 8 out of 10 reps.
3) this appears to be the bright spot of his preseason…overall he gave up 3 sacks in 3 games.
4) Pittsburgh decided to cut ties with jones right after this game

Jones still has the high ceiling talent, but is fighting a significant uphill battle between his nfl struggles and injury issue. I’m a fan of the trade but will keep my expectations fairly low. If he becomes a reliable swing that can fill in a couple games this year with below average starter play he’s done his job.

I don't think you need to pray for it at all it'll either workout or it won't it is business it's employees you hire them you fire them it goes on in the real world well he's just an employee of the Dallas Cowboys that they're hiring that may have a checkered past but they believe he can be valuable to their business and they're going to give it a whirl and if it doesn't work who cares I mean I hope it works out too but I don't lose sleep over things the Dallas Cowboys are doing except for on the field he will not be the starter probably the first three games well let's see if Terence Steele gets motivated by this,

They also brought up a guy on the practice squad and I don't remember his name I will once people start talking about it but I hear he may even be a better choice so they may have two options at tackle now and the play on the field will speak for itself we'll see how it works We are bringing back the same eleven guys including the one you're most worried about or two both the tackles It was a very highly offense it had very few flaws in it last year and they were able to cover them up just like they will this year and I believe our run game is improved this year and you will see more of the playbook this year..

Yes this is a subject that's being over talked about they just brought this guy in in hopes that he can get it done and if he can't they'll move to the next option that's it that's how it works..

Good breakdown.

I've been saying that I trust that Clayton Adams saw something in Jones he and Riley could work with

I won't expect him to be all-pro but if he can be reliable, that's good enough
You hope for this to be the case, but I’m skeptical as to how much Clayton Adam’s is actually scouting other teams players individually. I mean I’m sure he has some level of input but 90% of his focus has been on the guys in camp I’m sure….plus he overseen the entire offense not just the OL. Not to mention Jerry has been known to go rogue and make a move without an I depth conversation with his coaches…Trey lance for example. I’m guessing that’s not quite the case here, but skilled tackles are extremely rare to be available this time of year so Jerry may have gambled on a 1st rounder regardless of coaching input.

Way to buy yourself some time. We gotta wait a year from now?

Jones has never been good, and that accounts for his play pre-injury. There’s a reason why the Steelers spent two first rounders on OTs after drafting Jones in 2023.

Thinking the Cowboys hold the key to unlocking Jones talent is comedy. Why didn’t they do that with Nate Thomas, Steele, et cetera?

At some point it comes down to the player. Jones has been a total disappointment in Pittsburgh; we didn’t “steal” one.
I think 7 years from, he's gonna be the 1st person to invent a way to travel at light speed. I GUARANTEE IT!!!

(Good luck finding this prediction in 7 years)

"He's a lot better than people think"?

You mean...the people who's job it is and who spend decades learning to figure out who is a good NFL player and who is not? All those people, who determined he was not a valid NFL player? He's a lot better than THOSE people think? Because THOSE people think he sucks and isn't even a viable backup.

Yeah.. ok

And...again, are we still getting that Top 10 pick for Joe Milton?
And is Mazi Smith "a lot better than people think he is" also, like I kept getting told for 2 straight years before everyone in here finally dropped that nonsense and admitted he couldn't play?

The Experts make mistakes all the time
or else what are there so many first rd draft choices that go bust?

I think we paid too much for Jones coming off such an injury
but now we have him
Just hope that he works out

and people here make up their minds and few ever admit they were wrong

I remember how many here said Mazi was slow off the mark because of how he had been coached at Michigan

Yeah, I don't think Pittsburgh is an idiot franchise that you can fleece out of a good player like some. Yes, Pickens has worked so far, but that doesn't mean it'll work every time, and Pickens' position is very dependent on QB play where OT isn't. I personally think Mike is a good, solid coach who knows what he's doing, and it looks like he thinks this guy can't play.

This may work out because Steele is a low bar, but I don't think we're getting some really good player for a song.

The added context with Pickens is that he had worn out his welcome and patience with the Steelers franchise. We were the benefactors of that, so it wasn’t like they were idiots that we fleeced out of superstar and role model player.

Jones’ PFF were horrid since he came into the league and well before his neck injury. The neck fusion only adds to the dubiousness of his future success. The Steelers have drafted two OTs in the first round since drafting Jones. Those context clues should tell everyone what they need to know.

The Cowboys have had a great offseason IMO, but this move was not one of them.

I do like that he played well in his last preseason game, but like you said, it does seem to have been the bright spot of his preseason. The evaluator probably would not have been quite as high on him if he'd done one of the other games. He had his struggles against backups and wasn't great when healthy as a starter.

So I guess I feel like you do. Some fans think our coaching is going to be somehow superior to other NFL coaching and fix Jones, but we'll have to get very fortunate for that to happen. Sometimes a system does better fit a player and sometimes it all clicks in place for a player a little later in his NFL career. But there are clearly issues there that starting NFL pass rushers have regularly exposed, so we should keep our expectations low and hope for the best. ... Of course, that's my approach to my team now anyway.

From college to pro's is a bit of a crapshoot... almost two different games.

But once they're in the pro's? And fail....year after year? Then the uncertainty is mostly over. It's VERY rare for a guy to spend some years in the league, and just be unplayable....after given every chance to play, when the team that drafted you does everything it can to make you succeed, yet you still suck so bad ur not even backup worthy....it's very rare those types of guys all of a sudden become good, or even average, players

Not talking QBs here.... but position players. The Mazi Smiths of the world, which Jones is a member of right now, usually stay Mazi Smiths.

It is likely, but I have not been all that impressed with the Squealers for some time so its not like he came from a top organization.

The proverbial streets are littered with athletic freaks and former high draft picks that failed in the NFL. Thinking Jones is different is naive. Let’s not even talk about his fused spine.
You can’t even fathom a possibility where he improves? I just can’t think that way. Mazi Smith was never good, Jones was in college ofc.

The OP film is actually from the Steelers third preseason game this year, two days before the trade.
Oh well that’s good.

I still have my doubts about a OT coming off neck fusion surgery.

I hope I’m wrong.

Honestly, I don’t understand why the content creator didn’t review all three preseason games.

Jones was much worst in the first two games and then, against the true end of the roster Bills players and some guys who were days away from getting cut, he had a decent game.

I wonder how fit he is actually.

Improve markedly? No.

You’re appealing to his college pedigree from years ago (2020-2022).

He’s been horrible in his three seasons as a pro. I’ve posted the comparative grades between he and Steele. Jones is actually worse than the guy he’s supposed to be competing with. He now has his spine fused. It was an acute injury; not something that was chronically bothering him that could be used as an excuse for his poor play that he finally got fixed.

Folks are hanging their hats on “oh, well he’s still gaining his weight back…he’s not even at full strength…” which insinuates there’s a history of him being a good NFL tackle pre-injury but that isn’t the case.
