That is pretty cool....hope it will be the very best!
Don't worry. Reliant Stadium is a great stadium, but Jerry Jones won't settle for second best in Texas. He'll have the Texan fans green with envy. ;)

After more than 30 years at Texas Stadium and other teams throughout the NFL building new stadiums throughout the past decade, the Cowboys will open a new stadium in August 2009. When built, the stadium will have 75,000 seats and a retractable roof. It will feature open end zones linked to fan decks that could increase seating capacity to 100,000. Unlike there current home, Texas Stadium, the stadium will have a natural grass playing surface. As part of the new Cowboys stadium will be Legends Square, an environment of restaurants, shops, entertainment venues and gathering places, extending fan experience to a daylong event and providing a source of year-round visitation. On the edge of Legends Square will be the Cowboys Experience, a spectacular, multi-faceted venue built by the Dallas Cowboys for community activities, fan experiences and tourism. It will be a one of a kind attraction celebrating the legacy of the Dallas Cowboys. HKS, Inc. has been the architect for the Dallas Cowboys since winning a national design competition over three years ago. In November 2004, Arlington voters approved a tax increase to help Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones build the $650 million stadium in the North Texas city. Voters approved a measure that would raise the city sales tax by a half-cent, hotel occupancy tax by 2 percent, and car rental tax by 5 percent. Work at the stadium site, near Ameriquest Field home of the Texas Rangers, began in May 2006 as workers began to excavate the site. Final plans for the stadium are expected to be released in July 2006.

I LOVE the fact that the new stadium will ditch the asstro-turf. Just seems so anti-football to me. I'd like to think that they'd leave the roof open in all but the most severe weather too, but i doubt that will happen.

what is the regualr procedure for teams with retractable roofs on their stadiums?
is it predetermined if the roof will be opened or closed or is it a game day kinda thing? how do they make their mind up?

I believe that weather is the only factor considered whenever retractable stadium roofs are closed.

Are there any more stadiums with astro turf now? I thought they were all gone now. Do some of the domes still have it or that fake rubber grass?

field turf is supposed to be better than grass at least thats what the announcers always say

yeah, i think most of the stadiums are using this stuff now. can't think of any teams besides Dallas still running asstro-turf. "field turf" is not bad IMO, but you gotta love real grass.

The astro turf has been gone for a couple years now hasn't it? I thoguht they are using some fake sythetic junk on the field now, that is grass like.

Texas Stadium installed the new FieldTurf 3-4 years ago. Most teams are using that now. Even many of the NFL and college teams that went to real grass in the early 90's have now gone to the FieldTurf which is much like grass but artificial.

I'm surprised the new stadium would use real grass instead of the FieldTurf.

i thinks its time to adjust the contrast on my TV. I would naturally assume it would be fieldturf too. i was just reading from that article posted earlier which said that they intended to use natural grass.

they have been talking about having the field natural grass, and having it rectractable aswell... so they could slide the whole field outside during events where they usually have to lay stuff down over the field (ie. if they were to play basketball games there, or concerts etc).
