New league rule coming for concussions

All I know is his head slammed HARD against the turf. The NFL is investigating it.

The bold will be the next big debate.... turf vs. real grass. The original injury / concussion happened on grass, but Thursday was on turf.

Every player who has ever played has complained about artificial turf, how hard it is, concrete base. Most of them say that outside of concussions, they are twice as sore after a game on turf, even their feet and ankles hurt. We’ve seen more concussions from heads hitting the turf than from player collisions, not to mention all the blown out knees.

The only reason turf is so prevalent is because of all the outside events that owners can host that couldn’t happen because real grass wouldn’t hold up to it. Greed is always the foundation of everything the league does.

I have never stepped foot on the new turf but from what I’m hearing it’s pretty soft. It’s certainly not like the old Astroturf concrete. I don’t think the turf is going to make any difference when a players head slams against the ground.

and it creates bad running habits that leads to ACL tears and stuff like we saw with Shepard. His final step he basically was leaning back and landing on his heel, on grass he would have slipped running that way.

You’re thinking of the other hit against Cincinnati where his fingers spread. A doctor said that’s a result of a neurological issue.
I was thinking of both issues yes you’re correct. That’s the reason why it’s a big deal he never should’ve been in the game the second time. Obviously the second time it’s definitely concussion. There’s no Discussing the possibilities of that one. I’m talking about the entire picture. Both games. You can’t talk about the second game without talking about the first one first.

More than the neurologist should have been dismissed. I think several people in the Dolphins organization need to be fined and suspended...including the head coach. There was no way he should have been playing after such a short time.

Why are there so few concussions among RBs who are having big collisions and lowering their heads all the time? Maybe because they are fighting forward and seldom slung to the ground. It was frustrating, but maybe the league needs to go back to emphasizing “in the grasp.” Players adjust and hold the QB more instead of sling them around….early whistles too.

And it’s certainly not like, grass back in the 70s. When it was like concrete also. When it froze. I remember the first game I ever went to New England Patriots against Oakland Raiders. Steve Grogan was slammed to the ground his body squashed I thought he’d never get up

It will be interesting to see if the guy fired ever says anything. They claim he was fired because he made several mistakes where he didn’t do his job or follow the protocol.

He never went back in after the hit in Buffalo game. I believe

I really don’t know how they could say Tua wasn’t suffering concussion symptoms from the hit he took against Buffalo in week 3. He got up, then staggered and fell back to the ground. He even shook his head after he got back up.

Tua looked like a boxer that had taken too many shots. If he was in the ring, there's no way the referee would have let him come out for another round.

It depends... I visited AT&T while it was still under construction back in 2008 or 2009. The turf is literally just placed on top of a concrete slab. The local high school close to me in south Fort Worth recently replaced their turf and it looks like the base was a few layers of hard packed dirt. My guess is the high school has a safer surface than AT&T, but I don't know for certain. I don't know if AT&T has a layer between the turf and the slab, but it would make sense if they did. I have been on the playing surface there a few times and it feels rather soft and has a little bounce to it.

They were talking about the guy from the Bengals game…..not doing his job properly which is why Tua wasn’t in the concussion protocol last week.

No turf isn’t going to reduce head injuries unless the league plans on padding NFL fields like a modern day playground.

I agree with that. But that’s not what I was saying. Even natural grass felt like concrete

That would slow the game down. feel like running in mud lol

He staggered worse than Joe Frazier did against George Foreman. If Howard Cosell was still alive and calling that game he would’ve gone “down goes Tua!”
