Unfortunately it seems that Frazier will be getting the job unless all rpts are wrong. Lets keep our fingers crossed for some additional picks, Lord knows we could use them.

Before a team didnt need permission on a lateral move like from DL coach to DC as is the case with marinelli. But now that is only for assistant coaches being looked at for head coaching jobs. So Marinelli doesnt fall into that category. Tampa cant even speak to Marinelli without Dallas' permission.

Just thought id clear this up because i think some havent heard of the new rule change.

I'm one of those. I was corrected rather quickly though.
Thank you for this for others that might have been behind the times like myself.

DC.com just had an article that Dallas could release Marinelli in exchange for a draft pick. Someone tweeted Broaddus that the idea was stupid and he replied that this same ownership group gave up 2 #1 picks for Gruden.

Swap the 17th pick and Marinelli for the 7th pick of the draft? I'd do that for sure.

Marinelli was the reason this "D" competed at all

Shoot- I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Decent coaching is important. Very important.
But without the horses, no coaching will save you.

If you can trade a DL coach for more "Good" picks, I don't mean 3rd-7th rounders, I mean high picks-

DO IT TO IT. And don't look back, get your horses.

Or a tight end. [Ducking]

Good thing you ducked... I threw a broken toaster oven at you.
Thank goodness I already have a new one...

Oh, and I missed you. That was good too.

That tweet is wrong. Broaddus liked the idea on Talkin Cowboys

If I wasn't clear, someone tweeted to Broaddus that it was stupid to think TB would give up a draft pick. He replied by pointing out that the same owners gave up 2 #1's to get Gruden. This is the tweet:

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddus 7h

@Bosshog988: @DraftCowboys no way no how do Bucs lose 10 spots in draft for Rod, would love it but c'mon” Same owners gave 2 1s for Gruden

Different GM in TB. No way any team gives up a 1st rounder for an assistant coach. Get real.

The idea isn't TB giving up their #1, its TB trading spots in the first round with Dallas to give up 10 spots in the first round. Way different proposition.

How is the league able to infringe on the movement of coaches? Seems to me this violates something.

Because the coaches don't have a strong union like the players do. The coaches have the NFL Coaches Association. Bill Belichik isn't even a member, which says something about how strong they aren't.

Pretty sure that after the Gruden debacle, the NFL ruled out trading coaches for picks. Or has that been changed back now?

KC sent a 4th round pick to the Jets for compensation after Herm Edwards left NY in 2006. The Gruden trade to Tampa was in 2002. Maybe the rules changed after the Edwards debacle, which makes it seem less impressive.

I think we discussed this but it is good to be clear. I say lets get a draft pick and get a better dline coach. Swap 2nd round picks? :D:D

Still equally insane. That is the equivalent of getting an assistant coach instead of a 2nd round pick.

The situation with Marinelli falls along the lines of professional courtesy.

If he wants to leave, I doubt Jerry would stop him. He's old enough to just retire and you can't force him to do anything so you'd appear like a giant scumbag to hold someone with his amount of time in the NFL hostage like that.

He is under contract neverless. And yes Jerry does treat his coaches and players pretty well. But not the fans. How about a draft pick Tampa. I want some professional courtesy for the fanbase. Or just competitive courtesy.

Jerry stopped Joe D from an interview the year before he let him out of his contract to sign with the Bears IIRC.

Has anyone ever given a pick for an assistant coach?

I don't find any on a quick Google search, but they just changed the rule so that coaches can only break a contract to go to the Head Coaching job. The old rule was that a position coach could break his contract for a promotion (like this is to DC) so in the past teams had no leverage to demand a draft pick in return for letting the coach out of his contract.

Fantasy land.

He's our DL coach. We aren't getting anything for him.

And this isnt a new rule. Contract? Gotta honor it

Or simply let him go, which is the smart thing to do if he does not want to be in Dallas.

I look at this situation like all of those ones where it was "rumored" Jones was going to trade so and so and just let's them go eventually.

I cannot fathom any team giving up picks for an assistant coach, especially when there are a number of other viable options available at the time.
