Fantasy land.

He's our DL coach. We aren't getting anything for him.

And this isnt a new rule. Contract? Gotta honor it

And if Lovie wants him, it will be as Defensive Coordinator and not DL coach. We will know in a week or so who is living in fantasy land. Until then you might want to read up on employment contracts, they can be changed in 30 seconds by mutual consent.

Jerry stopped Joe D from an interview the year before he let him out of his contract to sign with the Bears IIRC.

Joe was mid-40s. Didn't have a personal relationship on the same level calling for him and won't just tell Jerry to screw himself.

He is under contract neverless. And yes Jerry does treat his coaches and players pretty well. But not the fans. How about a draft pick Tampa. I want some professional courtesy for the fanbase. Or just competitive courtesy.

Under contract or not. If he feels slighted, he can just retire. He's 65 and isn't interested in long term job prospects.

which won't bother me. If the 64 year old Ro (no D) lol wants to retire then fine. He didn't do anything special in 2013 for the Cowboys where he was basically "Co-defensive coordinator) And how about his 0-16 Lions that he led as the Head Football Coach. As Dallas Cowboys fans hoofbite, I think we should be rooting for a draft pick.

Yeah. Id love for every team to give Dallas a draft pick just for the hell of it.

I wasn't even commenting on a trade, just the idea that Jerry could block Marinelli and that would be that. Rod could just tell Jerry to get bent.

How is the league able to infringe on the movement of coaches? Seems to me this violates something.

There is this thing called a employee contract. There is another contract called a CBA. Perhaps you have heard of these things?

Not happening even if they made the move.

I don't think Jerry will let him go.

Why would you keep Marinelli here if he truly wants to go? If he wants to go and does not have an interest he's not going to put in 100 percent effort. I don't think Jerry is going to hold him here.

I can see them swapping 2nd round picks for permission for him to leave.

That may be the rule, but if Jerry actually stopped Marinelli from going to Tampa to accept a promotion to Coordinator we would feel the ripple effects in future potential hires. Coaches have a tight fraternity, you don't hold them hostage.

This . . .

Last season it was trading Anthony Spencer for a first, before that it was Miles Austin and now it's premium swaps for an assistant coach...

It does nobody any good if Marinelli really wants to go since he only has one year left on his contract. People forget the only reason he came to the Cowboys was because the Bears let him join Kiffin even though they wanted him to remain.

If I wasn't clear, someone tweeted to Broaddus that it was stupid to think TB would give up a draft pick. He replied by pointing out that the same owners gave up 2 #1's to get Gruden. This is the tweet:

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddus 7h

@Bosshog988: @DraftCowboys no way no how do Bucs lose 10 spots in draft for Rod, would love it but c'mon” Same owners gave 2 1s for Gruden

Ah, So someone thought Broaddus was stupid. Not that Broaddua thought the idea was stupid. Got it. thanks.

My comment was about how he couldn't leave for a promotion.

Of course he can leave with permission, Captain Obvious

I am not a legal scholar, so I am merely expressing me incredulity at a system geared toward the owners, limiting the freedom of the employee.

They aren't employees. They are contractors. When you sign a labor contract with someone then you abide by the contract that you signed.

Why is it so incredulous? The NFL is the only league of the major 3 U.S. sports(MLB and NBA being the other two) that doesn't have guaranteed contracts. It isn't difficult to imagine that they have other rules in place that favor the owners over their employees/contractors. And the coaches union or association isn't nearly has strong and cohesive as the NFLPA.
