From what I hear, the new stadium deal is already set and demolition of the houses their has already begun, so this thread may really have no point other than to complain and wish but I am probably not alone in this.

First off, thank you Laura Miller for being an idiot of a mayor and letting America's team, leave the Big D, your an idiot, and it looks like you are going to do everything within your power to get the red river shoot out, out as well. Mayoral Re-call Anyone?

Second, Retractable roof. I understand that this was the biggest player in the location of the stadium. aghhhhhh! Football is meant to be played outside, some of Dallas' most memorable games are that way because of the weather, ice bowl, thanksgiving day sleet bowl, mud bowls out in San Fran in the playoffs, etc. etc, if the teams up in the north east play without a roof so can we. Football is meant to be played in the elements, its a game of toughness. A retractable roof takes away this and in my opinion makes the team weaker and unable to adjust to the elements and other hardships as well.

Moving on, had JJ and SJ decided not to go with a retractable roof design, they could have cut 250M off of a 650M dollar project, allowing the stadium to be built in many more locations. Come on Jerry the hole in the roof was a great idea, football is to be played no matter the ELEMENTS! I understand that the roof allows more events to be held there, but come on we already have enough places for concerts and that sort in the AA Arena, Reunion Arena, Convention Center etc. Etc. etc. But even with out a roof, the stadium could host college games, bowl games, HS state games and concerts.

Well, I guess its too late to change anything, although I guess the plans could be changed for the stadium as they have just started clearing the site, and I guess if it is legal, Jerry could go and cancel the contract with Arlington, and then decide to build an no roof stadium (hey I like the idea of a design similar to the hole in the roof Texas stadium, it’s a national icon) wherever he wants, cutting 250M, some of which he could pay back the Arlington Home owners with.

Is it absolutely too late? Anyone else agree or have any thoughts?

:welcome: to the forum.

Oh yeah, the permits and licences to build that stadium would exclude them changing their plans now. A lot of cash flushed if they did that. That means they won't.

i love the hole in the roof and if we could build a stadium with a hole in the roof and a retractable roof for the hole only then i would be very happy that seems to be a great solution. but i dunno it may be time for a new design anyways, the retractable roof makes it easier to play in horrible weather, such as unsafe heat (110degrees), and thunderstorms.

I totally agree with you. Like you said, if Green Bay and New England can play outside, why in the world would Dallas need a roof? (I think the answer is that it's more for concerts and non-football uses, but I still don't like it.)

The retractable roof means big bucks because it will mean a Super Bowl for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. That means millions and we all know Jerry is all about money.

Maybe it has to do with trying to keep the weather out of the place in between football games? Keep the playing surface in better shape than what they currently are dealing with. More than likely though prolly a bunch of reasons, some good and some bad.

My favorite stadium as far as look goes is the Seattle one. I like the way the fans are close to the field and the endzones are unique. Most of the fans are covered and yet it's open air. I really like that one.

I saw a website with the new Cardinals stadium on it last year and it looked really cool also. I guess that's opening next season.

Yes, it is too late.
I am an architect..... so, I am aware of the process. I am sure the construction documents are finished by all disciplines - structural engineers, MEP engineers (mechanical, electrical, plumbing). so, to make any major changes - like the roof structure - would require a great deal more work, and therefore more design fees.

I think retractable roofs are smart -- the flexibility it brings is very valuable.

And, from a Cowboy perspective ....... a stadium with a roof can be a lot louder, and therefore a greater home field advantage.

The Seattle Stadium looks very sweet to me. I look forward to going there someday.

You beat me to it. I am no architect, but my first thought when I heard the roof was retractible was noise. Texas Stadium is already one of the louder places in the league, but put a lid on the stadium and theres no frreakin way other teams could here an audible or something like that. I also like the idea of a SB in Dallas which was another big reason for the change. As for the location, if talk to anyone outside the D/FW are.......arlingon, FW, Irving.....its all Dallas to everyone else......They will still be the Dallas Cowboys, and I highly doubt it will matter on opening day when many of us will be doing whatever we can to get there, even if we dont get into the game!!!

But i think they should make THE STAR ON THE ROOF! when it kloses....right on top of the STAR in the middle of the field.... :D Seems CooL to me..:D

Dallas unpredictable weather makes the need for a roof, they won't play a superbowl in Dallas without a roof. They won't ever get a BCS bowl without a roof.

It hasn't been loud in Texas Stadium since 1995. The only time it's loud is when the team is all but assured of winning the Super Bowl.

Thanks to AdamJT13 for finding this site awhile ago. But here's a link to what the stadium is supposed to look like. The roof itself is going to be different from other stadiums because it opens in the shape of a football.

Beat me to it. I was searching for those too.

If I remember right someone had the idea of the hole opening in the shape of the star. I loved that idea.

For those who do not like domed stadiums I'd remind of one thing, these retractable roof stadiums are more valuable and sometimes things like this are about adding value. I too hope the roof stays open, but if there were ever a high humidity high heat day it would be better to have a closed environment with A/C so that fans and mor eimportantly players weren't in any danger.

Just my .02 worth, but I hate domes and fake grass for football (St. Louis, Indy, Atlanta). The prevailing arguments for a retractable roof, like Seattle and Houston's, are very sound and make sense, though. Id like to think that the Cowboys will keep the roof fully opened for its games, and close it only when the weather is extreme (100+ temps, sleet, rain). Anyone know if theyve decided on a playing surface for the new stadium yet?

i havent read if they have decided what kind of playing surface yet or not.
i have read ( last years Cowboys Weekly ??) that they really like the
"field turf" they are using now.

If you are sitting in the sun in 100 degree temps for 3 hrs you'd change your mind about that retractable roof real quick :D
