New Stadium

ohhh we are supposed to read the links....thanks WG !!

I like the hole in the roof theory. Wether by accident or by design, a strategically placed stadium, with a hole in the roof, puts the opponents in the sun.

If you are sitting in the sun in 100 degree temps for 3 hrs you'd change your mind about that retractable roof real quick :D
no doubt... and even when it gets colder in the year, we like the idea of having that roof closed. We Texans are real sensitive to the elements. :D

Something funny. I was hearing that there are some Astros fans who were going to sue MLB, cuz they caught a cold after they made the team leave the Minute Maid roof open.
:laugh2:

The Texans are actually trying to solidify their policy so that the NFL doesn't come down on them for having a competitive advantage. While it's cool to have the roof open, but when it's closed, the stadium is that much louder.

Wussy Stro fans ;)

I read that it is going to be a grass field surface, so for it too be shut all the time would be impossible i think...

The stadium looks great, i WILL be there at any cost on opening day! and as far as the retractable roof, i like the idea...

Argh, Kansas City, Green Bay, New England, Denver... They all have great home field advantages with crowd noise, and they're all outdoors...

One reason I hate the idea of a dome is this idea that we can't handle a little heat or a little humidity or a little cold. What's up with that? Other places with a lot worse weather do just fine. And Dallas has a very mild climate anyway.

I know the real reason we're getting a closeable roof, and that's because Jerry wants to build the biggest and best stadium in the league. He, like most people, loved the Houston complex and considers it the best, so he wants to outdo it. A stadium without that would somehow make it a "lesser" building to some people. There's nothing wrong with wanting the best, but I just hate that this has to be part of it.

Actually, I shouldn't even think about the idea of the Cowboys playing under a roof. It's depressing... :(

maybe i'm getting old, maybe i'm getting wimpy.

after watching sporting events, living, working, and playing outside

almost all my life in this great state of Texas i wouldn't mind if they

built a retractable roof over the ENTIRE STATE of Texas.

i have sweated through too many Rangers games ( why ?? i dont know ),

i have sweated and froze at Texas Stadium (once on the same day).

i will never understand why The Ballpark at Arlington ( i know..ameriquest field) doesn't have a roof (retractable or not ).

I am looking forward to the new stadium. Ready or not here it comes.

Something I havent been able to get a handle on is, aside from permanent seating at 75K, with the end zones constructed the way theyll be, what will game attendance/seating be for regular season NFL games? We hear the end zones might accommodate another 25,000 or so, taking the seating up to 100,000 perhaps. Just for superbowls or college BCS games perhaps? Anyone?

I been to both extremes at Texas Stadium, as no doubt many who live here been through it too. The hottest of hot humid days, and the coldest od cold days.

But I have no opinions either way of watching a game indoors or out. I have been to many Dallas games at different stadiums. As long as I was watching the cowboys, it didn't matter. What I haven't experienced was sitting there in a down pour trying to stay dry.

Othe r reason for a retractable roof, besides weather. Some mentioned before. SB the biggest reason. BCS or maybe even the Red River Shootout (now the PC 'Rivalry' term) if Laura Miller screws that up. Don't forget the NCAA final 4. The ACC may be fine for some concerts. but how many more people would show up if the seating was available.

I'm ready for this to be done. We need to get some picture sites going so we can post photo's of the progress from Zone menbers viewpoints.

While I am glad that it looks like the Cowboys will be returning to a grass surface, I still think that the retractable roof is too "cushiony (sp?)" and as I and other posters have noted if teams like New England, Pittsburg, Green Bay, Denver, Seattle, etc. can play in their elements so can the Dallas Cowboys. I understand that the retractable roof adds value to the project and allows other events to be held there and that would be fine if Jerry would guarantee that the roof would be open for all games no matter the weather, but I doubt that. Really, besides the first four games of the season, only two of which are at home, how bad is the weather? Fans don’t have to always be comfortable, we can get to spoiled, look at the fans in Green Bay, Denver, New England, they love it when its cold their teams and fans feed off of it.

As for bringing the Super Bowl to Dallas, who cares. The Super Bowl will never be in Dallas any way because the league wouldn’t want to give the Cowboys home field advantage in a super bowl and there is always that chance the cowboys will be there.

I have sat through one game when the heat index was over 100 and yes it was miserable, but there are not that many games like that, and I think sitting through one or two games like that, in order for the rest of the games to be played in the elements, be it sleet, snow, cold, rain, whatever, is worth it.

The NFL has already stated that a SB will be awarded to Dallas in 2010 or 2011 I believe, if they build the new stadium...

Yeah, try paying a 100 bucks or so to see a game and have it pour on you. That's exciting.

I personally dont care as long as the "fuzzy grey matter" that is now coming from the roof is gone :D .

First off, thank you Laura Miller for being an idiot of a mayor and letting America's team, leave the Big D, your an idiot, and it looks like you are going to do everything within your power to get the red river shoot out, out as well. Mayoral Re-call Anyone?

Laura Miller is the Mayor in Dallas... she had nothing to do with them leaving Irving...

I was talking about her not doing enough to get the Cowboys to come to Dallas, if you read about it, Stephen Jones contacted Dallas first, trying to get the stadium built there, she did not want to do that so said no, they probably would be in Dallas if she had been for it. Im not an idiot I know she had nothing to do with them leaving Irving

That is not even close to how things went down and furthermore, the Mayor herself cannot keep something from happening because she has to work with the City Council (see the Ray Hunt Headquarters Deal).

The Cowboys complicated the entire process. They basically walked into the City Council, gave them give them about a month to make a decision so he could get the vote on the ballot in November.

The City Council, told the Cowboys (and rightfully so) that it would take way more than a month to get things done because there is so much that goes into building a new stadium in a city, especially a fairly large city like Dallas (laws, benefits/detriments to the city, taxes, contract awards etc etc).

I suspect Jerry Jones didnt want the stadium in Dallas to begin with, hence the short timeline. I think he wanted to go to Arlington because it has more flexibility in it's tax policy and they were willing to pick up more of the tab.

I dislike Laura Miller just as much as anybody, but she is not to blame for this.

Sorry, just the way your worded it... Leave the Big D...

Arlington and Irving? What's the difference? They are still in the Metro area...

The retractable roof is more for business all year long for any other major event, this stadium will be able to compete. Superbowls/BCS bowls/Concerts/FinalFours. If cowboys are leasing the stadium from Arlington, go they get to keep the money from all these events?

Grass? I Like the ''Real Turf'' more. Guess I just got used to it in teXas stadium..:D
