Why can't we error on the side of trying to keep them pure for as long as we can, ... and then let them decide for themselves when they become adults.

Why don't we just be responsible parents and say "no."

It's funny how reading the article clears up a bunch of misconceptions:

Tokidoki is considered a “collectible” and retails for $50 — much more expensive than basic Barbie dolls. Mattel said the doll is marketed more toward adult collectors than to children. Tokidoki is a limited edition doll — named after the fashion line of the same name. It is sold only on Barbie collector’s website.
You will not find this in any toy store,” said Jim Silver, Editor-In-Chief of TimeToPlayMag.com.

Silver said Tokidoki is just the latest in a long line of high-fashion collector items meant for adults, not kids.

Well, I guess bbgun can add it to his collection.

I have found that in life many that yell for responsibility of others rarely want to take the same amount of responsibility.

People complaining about TV shows. Hello in this day and age you have TVs and Cable systems that allow you to block channels and shows. So if the adult wants to watch it they can use a password to access it but if they don't want the children to watch it the channel is blocked. Heck if it bothers parents so much they can have a cable box and tv in their own room and no cable box or TV where the kids can access them. OR even go more extreme and not have a TV in their house at all.

But noooo...Quit showing those shows where my kids can see them because I am not responsible enough to make sure they don't watch them.

Also this tends to be the same kind of people that don't want anyone telling them what to do while yelling at others to stop doing things they don't like.

Target group or not, it's an irresponsible product to produce.

I am sure, living where you live, that you know that irresponsible parents exist.

And they are everywhere, not just WV.

Who will protect those kids if the parents don't?

Plus even good parents' kids will go behind their back, or watch at a friends house if it is available.

Why is it so wrong for a society to want to protect kids from things they shouldn't / don't need to see?

Why should it not be a major goal of each generation to protect the next?

The doll has tattoos. It's not like Spousal Abuse Barbie or Crackhead Barbie or Polygamy Sister-Wife Barbie.

It's ridiculous to say that its somehow irresponsible, as tattoos are a choice for someone that is of age and not at all illegal.

They also have, for a number of years, made collectible Barbies that sport high end designer dresses. Should we also say this is irresponsible because now our children will want to dress in haute couture simply because it's available on a Barbie? And we will be forced to buy it for them? That's LOL right there.

The problem becomes when one group of people decide what they think is best which can decide for others what is best.

What if I was to decide that Country Music is bad for kids in WV because it helps perpetuate stereo types of people in rural areas...therefore I am going to ban kids from buying, listening to country music and also ban TV stations and radio stations from playing country music. We have to make sure that no country music is available so we have to ban it from being sold or played.

That is how silly the idea is just because some people can not be responsible enough to decide they want their kids to listen to and also make sure they don't.

Instead of just getting rid of something for your own children for your own view point, you punish all others that don't have the same opinion as yourself.

WHAT...they show that TV show...well by gosh I don't want my son or daughter watching it and instead of just making sure they don't watch it I want it banned so that nobody else can watch it.

That sir is a scary path to go down.

I mean first off she is a bleach blonde skinny woman who never ages. She must have a bunch of plastic surgery on a regular basis...oh wait she is plastic.:laugh2:

Also what is the deal with her and all of her clothes, money, fancy cars, dream houses...does all she care about is material things. Why did she date Ken for 30-40 years and not get married...at least I don't think they were married.

She is not exactly a great role model for young girls.

But oh no....throw a tattoo on her and NOW people are upset.

It's a freaking plastic doll. Don't like it, don't buy it for your kids...really simple.

Go another step and I am surprised anyone would buy a barbie for their kids.

Heck you could go another step and not only not buy that specific product, you could just not buy any product made by the company...A great thing for the american consumer to voice their displeasure is called boycotting.

And for the record, I think the whole thing about Barbies being bad for self-image and all that other stuff is a bunch of crap.

I played with Barbies when I was a kid and never once did I think "Man, Barbie is one skinny girl and I'm a gigantic walrus in comparison. I better go barf up my PBJ post haste."

They are dolls.

Models, singers, actresses and other real people being skinny to the point of gauntness and unhealthy physique are another thing entirely. That is what affects girl's/women's self-image, not a stupid doll.

That reminds me of the Obama/Kardashian story this week. Apparently Obma only lets his daughters watch TV on the weekends and when they do, they watch the Kardashians.

Tell me what is better for a kid?
Mon- Monday Night Football
Tuesday- SpongeBob
Wednesday - Some TBS movie
etc.
or....

Monday through Friday - No TV
Saturday - Kardashian ***** fest marathon

lol. sounds like more of a plug for people that watch the Kardashians than anything. Gotta pander to the lowest common denominator :laugh1:

And to Faerluna - I'm still not buying tattooed, emo, wrist-cutter Barbie for my kids one day :D

Mostly because I wouldn't buy Barbies, period.

Same here, although if she wanted one I'd probably let her get one. She currently doesn't have any idea about what Barbies are or watch any crap TV. It will stay that way for as long as I can keep it that way.

It isn't wrong. That is why they put these shows that aren't for children on later at night. It could be a free for all and just let them broadcast the shows at any time during the day, but they don't. Apparently, that isn't good enough for you. Give someone an inch.
