Cowboys Pro Bowl CB Terence Newman is high on fellow CB Alan Ball, recently signed from the team's practice squad.
News of the Cowboys' endless pursuit of Pacman Jones gave Newman the opportunity to endorse Ball: "With (second-year cornerback) Alan Ball, he’s coming around. He’s going to be a player."

Cowboys CB Terence Newman, entering the final year of his contract, wants to be paid like a top cornerback.
Newman wants to stay in Dallas and he "doesn't need the money." On the other hand, he does want to be recognized AND paid as one of the league's top corners. In other words: it's not about the money, just show me the money.

Heck, if we can snag two good CB's in this draft ... perhaps we can save $10 mil on Newman next year.

I totally agree Eddie. Pacman and DRC, or McKelvin. Our new secondary. We have to be smart about the future. Look at the Pats and forgive me for this, the eagles. They cut vets all the time and replace them.

I like Newman, but I am afraid that he's going to price himself out of Dallas.

People are incredibly stupid if they think a talent like TNew is easily replaced.

"He's going to be a player."

Wow, that's one hell of an endorsement. That's like someone recommending you for a job by saying, "He's a person."

Basically.

The main reason why he is... "endorsing" Ball is because he knows he won't demand a lot of money which will help Newman be able to get closer to the amount he wants!

That's exactly what it boils down too, there are a few contracts that need to be addressed next year. I believe DeMarcus Ware, is one of them.

Intersting thought.

"No need to bother with first rounders or PacMan, Cowboys...we've got Ball!"

He's a savvy vet. ;)

Heres a quote from Brian Stewart on Ball in TC last year.

Rookie To Watch: Alan Ball

The Cowboys drafted two cornerbacks in the seventh round, just like in 2004 when they added Nate Jones and Jacques Reeves. Who knew both would stick around for three seasons and be reporting for their fourth camp?

But those two vets will get a strong push to claim the final cornerback spots from rookies Courtney Brown and Alan Ball, who was rather impressive over the summer.

Ball, a second-team All-Big 10 pick last season at Illinois, matches up well against NFL receivers with his 6-1, 182-pound frame. Cowboys defensive coordinator Brian Stewart said, "I really, really like Ball as a young guy. He's showed us some good things already."

I've heard nothing bad about him since we drafted him and with the way we have been hitting on late round picks the last few years it wouldn't suprise me if we drafted another guy who can develop into a solid corner for us.

I heard hes beefin up this offseason too.

Just to add....

Juraszek said some of the players, including quarterback Richard Bartel, cornerback Alan Ball and safety Courtney Brown, even participated in a nine-week program leading up to this week, which gave them somewhat of an advantage heading into Monday's workouts.

"Our activity level leading up to this week was more than we've ever had before," Juraszek said. "They're not base-building as much. I can be a little more aggressive with their workout and their activity level is a little more aggressive because of that. But guys like Bartel, Quincy Butler, Alan Ball . . . we've had guys the whole time here. It's fun to see them transition back with the normal guys because they're a level ahead of those guys."

Juraszek said he can already see a difference in Ball's physique. Ball, a seventh-round pick from Illinois, was listed last year at 6-1, 176.

"Alan Ball has gotten bigger," Juraszek said. "He's really impressed me with his strength."

I thought Ball showed good quickness when he played last year, but it still remains to be seen whether he can transform into a starting quality player.

I've been around sports.

I know what it means when you give someone a low ball compliment like that.

It means the guy isn't awful, but Newman isn't ready to say he's any good either.

I'm not counting on any more 7th round corners to be the answer for us, I've learned my lesson. If he turns out to be decent, great, but I'm putting zero eggs in that particular basket.

In any case, the coaches evidently like Ball as well.

When Ball was placed on the active roster end of last season, Wade was asked whether another team was going after Ball (so we decided to place him on our active roster).

Basically, the answer was that another team wasn't taking him, but the coaching staff felt that Ball had earned that 53-man roster spot. And that the staff felt that Ball could develop into a good man to man CB.
