True, but if it comes down to a straight choice between keeping Ware or TNew on a long contract, where would you spend the money?

What else was Newman supposed to say? That Ball sucks? Of course Newman thinks Ball is going to be good.

That doesn't mean Ball will amount to anything. Last time I checked, Newman isn't a scout or a coach; just a player.

I hoped Ball bulked up some. He had some chicken legs when he came to us. Being 6-1 is going to help him also. But this guy is going to need more than size. His skills looked pretty raw to me. In any case at least that is someone else to keep an eye on this preseason.

He didn't have to say anything at all.

He might be just a player but I definitely would love to have one of the top CBs in the NFL say I'll be a good player in the future.

I somehow bet we find a way to keep both Newman and Ware. We've not really lost anyone we wanted to keep in a while now.

I've been around sports.

I know what it means when you give someone a low ball compliment like that.

It means the guy isn't awful, but Newman isn't ready to say he's any good either.

I'm not counting on any more 7th round corners to be the answer for us, I've learned my lesson. If he turns out to be decent, great, but I'm putting zero eggs in that particular basket.

lol you're so wrong.

When someone says "he's a player" that means the kid is good. Hes a player.

When TO says he (Ball) is a player... then I will listen.

I think we can keep both Ware and Newman, but we probably won't keep Colombo, IMO.

You couldn't be more WRONG. To say someone is going to be a player is the ULTIMATE compliment that you can give some.

Anytime a coach or another player says something along the lines of someone can play, or they are a player or are going to be a player, you need to pay attention, as players and coaches do not throw those words around loosely.

There are alot of things that Newman could have said about Ball, or he could have simply said nothing.

To say someone is a player is the ultimate compliment that you can give a player.

Here are a few things you hear alot of, that people give alot of weight to, but are tossed around very lightly by coaches and players:

That kid has alot of potential, keep and eye on him.

Don't forget about ????, he will see some time as well

So and so has some real skills, don't over look him.

No, Newman isn't a scout or a coach, but anytime anyone tosses "player" out, you really should listen, it is not a word that is used lightly by players or coaches.

I think we can sign both Newman and Ware, if we don't spend a lot on a big time #2. There are also the issues of signing Barber, Canty, Hamlin, TO, and Burnett to long term contracts.

I think he might have.

I know there were reports out of camp last year that he was challenging the receivers, going up against TO and loving it.

The specifics escape me.

I like Tnew, excellent tackler for a guy his size. But one could argue he's underachieved alot of his career. When compared to a guy like Asante Samual, his stats don't compare. If you have to pay top dollar for an "older" corner like Tnew is getting, he better be putting up the numbers. Drafting or prepping younger talent is a wise move. Especially come contract time.

I could see the Cowboys still taking a CB even if they get Pacman. Three quality corners is a must these days.

Anthony Henry isn't getting any younger either.

TO is too busy watching his BFF Andy Roeddick (sp?) playing tennis.

You can't judge CB's by their stats. Newman is a much better CB than Samual is. The best CB's don't put up huge stats, because QB's don't throw their way very often.

Really? How about making that argument for us.

I'll be thrilled if Ball can just make a good 3rd or 4th CB and a special teams contributor . Dallas needs those type guys desperately . For a seventh round draft pick , that would be fantastic .

His argument would be that he doesn't put up big stats. Which would show that his argument has more holes in it that swiss cheese thus should be ignored. When he implied that Samuel was a better CB than Newman because Samual's "stats" were better showed how messed up his thinking was to begin with.

Among this group Canty is a top priority.

For TO, I guess it depends what direction we want to go - can't have two WRs earning #1 type money. If Roy Williams hits FA next year that might be the direction we choose to go. Alternatively, maybe we trade for Boldin.

As for Barber, not convinced we're going to be the team to pay him.

Burnett is a role player, and not even a good one at that.

Hamlin may also be a cap casualty with some of the other mediocre safeties in the league getting $6M/year. We may be buying ourselves a year to see what we have in Watkins, Brown or another draft pick this year.

Caponomics has become more important for us with the number of young stars we are developing and we will need to start thinking along the lines of NE - letting some go and trying to get some compensation for other that are in high demand via trade. This strategy only works if our drafting remains top-notch and we coach players up and bring in some low-cost vets as role players.

You are reading far too much into a 4 word statement. "He's a player" could mean anything, it sure as hell doesn't mean he's good since he has barely played.
