With Newman going on 31 and having missed games the last two years odds are that he will not play a 16 game season. With that said how many have faith that Jenkins/Scandrick/Ball can hold the secondary together for say 4 games. I say 4 because that's what I think Newman will miss. Not trying to sound like a sour puss because i think Newman is a heck of a player but the team needs to be prepared just in case.

Options:

1) sign a vet and draft a couple of CB's.

2) just draft a couple of CB's and them as the 4th/5th CB's.

We invested heavily in jenkins and scandrick, they have to step up if Newman goes down. Trading Henry shows that we have confidence in these guys IMO. I think your right in that we can't assume Newman will be healthy given his age and recent history, but we have other areas of need and i don't Free Agency is the awnser.

When healthy Newman is one of the top CB's in the league. I have faith in him.

cmon now clove..

you serious about that?
Newman single-handedly lost us a game last year, he was abused near the goal line, then had a miss-step in a game gave up a huge play in the steeler game.

I think he has skills, but I think we may think he's a tad bit better than he actually is. The true play maker in that secondary is Scandrick.

Scandrick is a true playmaker??? What game changing plays did he make last year??? You can't be serious.

Newman reminds me of Samari Rolle. Shows flashes of greatness, but is not great. Also, he gets banged up.

I reserve judgment on Scandrick. Last year was good, but can he do it consistently? I sure hope so.

I'm good, yourself?

I like Newman personally, but it's okay to say he is what he is. He's a pretty good shut down corner, he doesn't make interceptions, I would like for my corner to do that sometimes, and he gets cocky with certain players and it costs him sometimes.

Every corner has games like that. Deion wasn't always the best corner either.

Not comparing the two, I'm just saying every corner has games like that.

Of course because Newman is close to reaching his ceiling. While Scandrick a 1 year player has not. You haven't told me anything i don't know. So again since when was Scandrick a playmaker??? I didn't see any game changing INT's or plays from last year.

IMO, he is a bigger play-maker than Newman.

Every couple of years Newman does something spectacular. This rookie was knocking down balls left and right during the year, that constitutes making-plays.

Meanwhile, Newman is getting dusted by a NONE PLAY MAKING WR WHO INCIDENTALLY WON THE SUPER BOWL, that play sealed it for Pittsburgh.

And to the guy who said Deion had bad games, I don't think so. Deion was a 1 of a kind player, to put he and Newman in the same breath is bad news.

I see what you are saying. Scandrick does have the potential to be a playmaker in the secondary but from his little body of work last season hasn't really shown that much playmaking. While he did have some plays when he was knocking balls down he wasn't getting interceptions.

Outside of a gift pick6 against the Jets, I don't recall T-New making any plays. I've seen him shut down some great receivers, but he has always left me wanting more.

You aren't alone by thinking Newman has gotten a pass.
