Newman Is A Tremendous Player, But His Drop Of The INT Was As Big As Cundiff's Botch

...Newman had the game in his hands at that point and he dropped it.
He takes that gift wrapped INT opportunity to the house and Plummer comes unraveled. Game over.

Cundiff's kick attempt would have just been for insurance.

It was slightly behind him, but that likely would have been the nail in the coffin.....

there's a reason guys play CB instead of WR, its called hands in most cases

that was a tough catch, it wasnt like it was a perfect pass, he had to reach behind a little

still...would have been nice if he had taken it in...but the guy has had an AWESOME yr...I am not going to fault him for a dropped tough INT, especially in a agme where our lousy kicker blows a gimmee from 33 yds

Thank you.. my brother in law and myself had been saying that all night...

Newman had the ball right in front of him and he started running before he caught it...

He catches that ball and we walk into the endzone ala Philly and get the hell out of dodge with a win...

The thing is, he was trying to cut off the receiver. If you watch the play, the ball was thrown way behind him, so as he was moving forward he had to try to stop and catch it behind him.

It was a tough play, that SHOULD have been made, but I think there's about 5+ things you can point to for this loss.

1) Cundiff's missed field goal.
2) Our sad excuse for an offensive line/running game.
3) Glenn getting beat on that TD.. that was waaay too easy.
4) Newman's dropped INT.
5) Davis missing the tackle on Dayne.
6) That 3rd and 1 short pass to Glenn at midfield.
7) Bledsoe's INT for a TD.

yeah that woulda been a tough catch for a WR, TNew made a good play on the ball, and as well as he played tonight, he deserves ABSOLUTELY no blame for this loss.

T-New gets no blame for the loss, in fact a little earlier he made a crucial fumble recovery to set up the 21 - 21 tie..

but at the end of the day, that was a play that really came back to bite us. It was a difficult but catchable ball.

The ball was behind him. It was NOT way behind him. He got his hands on it and had it for a split second. I guarantee you Newman believes he should have caught it.

Look if Roy Williams can catch the dart thrown by McNabb that was above his head, Newman should catch that gift wrapped opportunity.

I'm not dogging him because he's a great player, but one or two plays not made like that result in a big fat L.

he also made the first big play for us on the first pick, and blanketed their WR's all day...

and he had us in good position for a late 1st half FG again, but his good PR was wiped out by a penalty again

He was also the guy who stopped Dayne short of the end zone. While it was guaranteed Elam would hit the FG, had he missed it, Newman would have been the saviour.

Instead of blaming Newman who had excellent coverage on his man all game long, perhaps one could ask Bledsoe what he was thinking when he threw 6 points the other way or ask Cundiff what he was thinking when he missed his chpshot FG.

I won't even bring up the poor play of the OL.

To blame Newman, who played an outstanding game is wrong. Remember, all a WR has to do is look for the ball.....a CB has to watch his man and the ball. It's easy to blame Newman when your sitting on your couch.

Either way, this one is NOT on Newman.

I agree 100% Sarge...T-New is having an all-pro yr

Look I'm not saying he didn't make some good plays. I'm not dogging him, but we lost and he had the go-ahead TD INT in his hands and he dropped it. All the other plays don't make up for that one.

As several good coaches have said..in games between two evenly matched teams, you play the whole game and one or two plays decide it.

Bottom line he didn't make that one. The week before Roy made the play and we won. It's just like when Roy didn't make the pick against Washington with 4 minutes to go in that game and we lost.

I agree. If we are going to become an elite team one day we must make these kind of game changing plays. Champ Baily made the most of his and Newman did not. Newman played a great game but that interception for a TD would have kept Dallas in first place and put Newman in the Pro Bowl.

If Bledsoe on the other hand didn't throw the INT for 6 points the other way, Newman not grabbing the INT is irrelevant.

Newman is already having a probowl year and had an outstanding game today. I cannot even believe some people are trying to put this one on TNew when Bledsoe played like he did, Cundiff played like he did, and the OL played like they did.

Unreal.

I really don't think anyone is blaming TNEW for losing the game... he played a hell of a game, however with that said, I think the point of the post is that, Newman's dropped ball impacted the game just as greatly as Cundiff's kick or Bledsoe's INT and some people are failing to notice that in the grand scheme of things Newman could have wrapped the game up ala Roy Williams..

Tnew not grabbing the INT is not the same as GIVING Denver 6 points by throwing right to them.

Cundiff throwing away 3 points is also a MUCH bigger play than Tnews' as well imo.

Bledsoe put points on the board for Denver and Cundiff essentially took points away from us.

We disagree.
