Newman vs. Trufant

Is it ok to admit that Trufant is the better CB? While I love having Newman, I do sometimes wish we would have taken Trufant instead. That guy just makes plays on the ball! A little better in coverage, IMO. Would this be considered blasphemy on my part?

Your thoughts.

Thoughts?

1. You're going to get slammed.
2. There pretty close in terms of ability and I think it's fair to say Trufant plays the ball better, but I'd say Newman is still better in coverage.

I'd say they 're both as good as their teams pass rush makes them. I will say the Seahawks team played pretty good coverage tonight. Trufant did have a good return for a TD. But the ball was thrown right to him to.

They're both elite corners. I see no reason to nit-pick on which is better. I like Newman. If Trufant was a Cowboy, I'd like him.

The difference is negligible.

I always picture him saying "White Power!" when he takes the helmet off.

Trufant makes plays...but isn't a true Cover corner like Newman...T.New will blanket his guy up and down the field.

Trufant will make plays when the ball is thrown 2 him

My thoughts are you'll never know since they don't play against each other.

Those are kinda my thoughts as well.

On a side note: when does a player comparison get too old? I mean they've both been in the 4 years and had some success. So when do you move on?

Newman hardly gets passes thrown his way, so obviously he's going to get less INT's and thus "doesn't play the ball as well."

Trufant is having a nice season and could very well be playing to Newman's level, but the reality is Newman has been playing at this level for the past 5 seasons. Trufant? Not so much.

Hell, they almost cut him after his second season.

They're both topnotch corners. Newman has the better makeup speed - Truffant is more inclined to break on the ball and look to make the INT. Push.

Want a better thread be D. Grant vs Roy Williams

I mean Grant went up in the end zone and almost picked one and he batted down another pass as a safety.

Newman is better. He plays the slot and plays it dang good!

Trufant was near the top of the league last year in terms of being thrown at.

Trufant is good, but he isn't as good as Newman.

Ask Trufant to check Steve Smith all over the field.

Ask him to check Dallas Clark in the slot. Champ Bailey was worn out by Clark this year when Devner tried it.

And he also got toasted by Moss, too. He played well, but he made some bloopers too.

You must be new here - allow me to explain.

When we evaluate safety play, we focus primarily on the bad plays Roy Williams makes, while glorifying the good plays made by other safeties, and minimizing their slip-ups.

You're welcome. ;)

When was the last time you see Roy defend a pass like that

Yes grant made some mistakes but tell me the last time you have seen Roy go up and make a play like that or actually bat a pass away vs hitting the guy after the catch.

Thank you. I didn't realize that's how things were around these parts.

I didn't focus too much on him, but I did note Grant's really good plays...and a couple of plays where it seemed like he was the culprit.
