Newman's Play

Sarge said:
Yes - he probably should have made the play, it wasn't the easiest catch in the world, but perhaps he could have caught it.

Missing a 33 yd filed goal on the other hand is totally inexcusable.

Sarge,

I absolutely agree on this point. Newman made a bunch of other plays that clearly were big in the game and would have been huge contributions to a big win. Cundiff has ONE job to do and he couldn't do it. He has always been inconsistent for us and inconsistency is the one flaw in a kicker that is unacceptable.
I will be glad when we finally replace him. The injury to Matt Bryant at the end of camp last year has hurt us a lot more than we initially realized.

No question. Cundiff has to go. I also blame this on BP as we KNEW we had K
problems going in.

Not unlike last year when we KNEW we had problems at CB going in.

If we just had me coaching the team..................

True.

And we aren't and this isn't.

Still too many holes.

Fortunately, noone in the NFC is. We have just as good a chance as anyone in the NFC to represent in the SB this year.

Some people in here wouldn't make it if they ever had to sit through a Monday morning film session and hear a coach chew you out in front of everyone for the plays you missed and the plays you messed up. Coaches do that to kids in high school, what do you think is expected of NFL players making millions of dollars a year?

After the great game that Newman had, I bet Parcells and company aren't being too hard on him. He played a helluva game. Newman simply missed a pass that a whole lot of corner's would drop.

Parcells has too many other people to be upset with to harp on Newman for a dropped INT. Oh, Coach also has to take time out of his day to congratulate Newman on his great INT and his spot on fumble recovery... not to mention his solid run support and shutdown coverage.

Newman is the least of Parcells worries.

Absolutely correct - we have as big a chance as anyone to lose the Superbowl to the Colts this year.

They're also ruined on missed chipshot field goals.

Nobody is blaming Newman for the loss. Without his int and fumble recovery, we most assuredly lose.

But making plays like that make winners, even if your kicker makes errors. This whole team and even Coach Parcells need to understand that we shouldn't have to rely on a kicker to win. We need to make the plays to win. Every snap until the gun sounds.

The issue is that he makes that play, we have an even stronger chance of winning. Continuing to harp on Cundiff would be irrelevant if we make other plays.

Just like we needed to make other plays in our other close games. It is never on one player. But if blaming Cundiff makes you feel better, please do so. But there is plenty of blame to go around, including this case here.

Nah, we'd kick their butts. Manning? pfffft. He's too busy looking for autographs from grocery store stockers. He's lost his focus. :)

I would not put it past Coach Parcells to get a slight dig on Newman for that.

He does not take it easy on anyone and if he starts, then he probably needs to retire.

A quick witty backhanded remark in the film session would probably get the job done. I would not expect an "attaboy for dropping the interception, Terrence" along with a "that's okay, you did your job despite that, now the rest of you guys--".

True, you lose and win as a team. But when the team does enough to win the game, and one player, who has one job, messes that job up, you can put a man-size portion of blame on his plate.

You know unlike a lot of people, I actually believe a Belichik-style defense, (which is really a Parcells defense and our defense this year), still has the capacity to frustrate Peyton and the Colts just like it has done the last 2 years in the playoffs.

Belichik just has way too many injuries this year to make it work. Now if we just had Tom Brady I would like our chances.... :)

Newman is a BEAST. He's been ballin all year long and with that being said, BP will probably needle him a lil bit bout missing the pick and he should. Thats just BP's way of doing things and I like it....

Yeah, I would expect Parcells to have some smart alec comment to say to Newman... but then he does that to every player that he really likes. If Parcells didn't say some wise-crack to Newman... then you'd have to be worried.

I'm saying that Parcells wouldn't sit and berate the guy for that play when he played one heck of a ballgame.

Exactly. You can never be satisfied with any player no matter how good they are. That is a good coach.

Interesting. On one hand you say "great teams and great seasons are built on plays like these" then you say "it's never one player."

That's a bit contradictory.

Let's say Newman makes the catch, where is the guarantee points result from it?

And yes, making plays like Newman should have, makes winners, but missing 33 yard chipshot field goals makes losers.

And yes again, if Newman makes that play, we have a better chance at winning, that's not rocket science.

It's also not rocket science that if we had 3 more points on the board, which we should have, the outcome may have been different. Not a guaranteed win, but a much better shot at one.

Plenty of blame to go around.

Having said that, Newman played a very good game.

Cundiff played a horrible game.

Dont you know, we dont praise pple on the board, we tear em down and rip em apart. Even if there good. Like Bledsoe and Jones. No good post allowed here, whats wrong with you man. Dont forget, we Cowboy fans wallow in misery and look for negitives in the game to come here and post on the board. We cant be happy with with a good players making plays. Dont ever want to see a good post here again by you, make them all negitive, we dont want to piss off the majority of posters that like it negitive here you know.

So glad I found this thread.
I'm new to the Zone and was looking forward to exchanging opinions on the Boys who I have followed form over 25 years now.
But I have to tell you "I"m out of here" The negitivity here is rediculous.

You guys are way too critical for me to try and enjoy this site.

On this last loss I've seen every individual player on the team get ripped.

I thought this site might be a site to enjoy and support the team Not crucify them.

Sandtrapp OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:enough:

Hopefully - you'll reconsider and stay.

Mind you - this is a board whereby the 'players' can speak their mind, so long as there is no crossing the line.

It isn't a place where all you read is in support of the team. What good would that be?

All sizes and shapes in here, which, IMO, is what makes this board second to none.

Even IF Juke is a member.

sarge i have to admire your persistance in blaming it on the kicker. haha

blaming the loss on the kicker in a forum about how well a CB played is outstanding. Well Done!

This is a very, very negative bunch. I'd almost go the next step and say there are a majority of fans that enjoy whining and complaining. They do it non stop even when we are winning or players are exceeding expectations.

We are in shape now to watch NFC teams lose and get beat up tomorrow and go into Meadowlands rested! With a clear shot at division with win.
