I'm always confused by this "sources" stuff. Are they unnamed people from within the organization or people connected? Or are they still using Internet doctors Twitter feeds? The headline makes you think turn for the worse, then you read the same old stuff.

Yup. And people blast the "sources," but Stephen Jones is openly debating whether or not to place him on IR. Reasonable minds should be able to discern that Romo isn't coming back in Week 3 if the team is contemplating putting him on the short term IR.

Exactly. A lot of people get confused by Jerry Jones' comments and then the robot. But Stephen Jones' comments make it very clear. He is not playing in week one, so that silly dialogue needs to end. And it will be a while after that.

Placing him on IR and having him ready to play 4 weeks into the season would be idiotic. There is absolutely no reason to place him on IR unless he can't come back for at least 10 weeks, and even then you are talking about adding a roster churner in the 53rd spot.

Your right, Im going off the 6-10 week time frame. If the MRI this weekend matches that time frame I dont think you burn the roster spot. With a bye in week 7 I doubt they rush him out in week 6, so week 8 would likely be best case in the 6-10 week scenario.

Obviously if hes ready by week 4 he shouldnt be on IR.

They aren't, they have another MRI scheduled.
So do you think they will go on record with a final answer?

Of course not. There will be more speculation by the evil media.

Nobody is going to come out and say he is out for the max. They will play out the drama just to keep hope alive if for nothing else to keep the spirit active.

Much better to just say "week to week", when practically every other source suggests a longer time frame.

Theoretically it could be anyone. But a trusted, quality journalist would only use someone credible and close to the scene as a source. And the most trustworthy of publications require multiple sources, because relying on a single source can provide wildly inaccurate and/or biased information. Perfect example is using an agent as a source. Example: "Source: 17 teams prepared to make offer to Hardy" There might not be a single team offering a contract, but an agent would want to drum up an imaginary market.

I think everything comes down to the MRI this weekend, and all of these articles with phantom sources are just clickbait in the meantime.

It's all just part of the master plan to keep the Giants guessing and preparing for two quarterbacks.

Regardless, they will probably carry him on the 53, then IRDTR.

I don't see how they could see definitely enough this soon that he is done for the year.

Except that this article doesn't even say sources close to the team. Just sources. I can name 3 sources I saw speculating about it this past week - and none of them had any inside information. They were just doctors who were guessing.

Of course.

I bet they are just preparing for our fat crippled starter instead of Prescott and then, just before kickoff, BOOM.

They will not know what hit them.

No, but they could see enough to conclude that it won't take 10 weeks to heal. Then the IRDTR doesn't make sense.

Im sorry I meant IR eligible to return, I thought that was what he was talking about in the article.

If you read the article, it almost sounds like the title should be "SINCE Tony Romo could be out 8-10 weeks, could Cowboys place him on IR?" When I first saw the article, I immediately thought someone had inside information that the injury needed the long side of the timeline to heal. But the article is nothing like that.

Honestly, I think even our own doctors are guessing just like those speculators.

This is not an easy injury to look at and get definition. If outsiders are going on the long side, they are dealing with what they have seen in similar cases and it might not be a 36 year old QB who has other back issues.

ARLINGTON -- Tony Romo will be on the Cowboys 53-man roster this weekend.
That doesn't mean he'll be there after Labor Day.

Club officials continue to wrestle with Romo's status. Multiple sources say the time frame to return from his L1 compression fracture is precariously close to the length of time he'd be sidelined if placed on injured reserve/designated for return.

Romo will undergo another MRI this weekend, nine to 10 days after the initial injury. Those results will dictate whether the Cowboys carry him on the active roster or place him on injured reserve, meaning the earliest he could return would be Nov. 6 against Cleveland.

This means the six-to-10 week time frame that surfaced in initial reports is more of an eight-to-10 week window.

"We're certainly getting our hands around it,'' executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "We need to make that decision obviously sometime later in the weekend.

"Whatever we do with him he needs to be on our 53 when we cut. You've got to have him through the 53-cut before you put him on designated return, if we wanted to consider that. But it may be we keep him on the roster.

"We'll just see.''

The Cowboys have a bye in Week 7 before returning to play Philadelphia on Oct. 30. If Romo can't play before the bye, how much sense does it make to carry him on the active roster for the first six weeks of the season? That would allow him to return just one game before he would if placed on injured reserve.

This is the dilemma the club faces. If the Cowboys aren't convinced Romo can return Oct. 9 against Cincinnati or that next week against Green Bay it will be difficult to justify carrying him on the active roster.

"He's very driven, driven to do what it takes to get back,'' Jones said. "We've really done a lot of research on this. I think this was s a freak accident.

"It's unfortunate for Tony to have some of these things, but I think the last thing in the world we're worried about with Tony is being fragile. He is undeterred and he really believes this team does have a different sort of mindset with him not being here and that we can win games and when he does get back we're ready to make a run.

"When Tony gets back the team will be ready for him.''

The question is whether Romo can return by mid-October or early November. That will determine how the Cowboys proceed.

2 reasons I say they should put Romo on IR: 1. It frees up a roster spot on the final 53 and 2. It forces the Cowboys to preserve Romo from going back sooner than he should.

I don't see how they could considering the age of the injury. I am not a medical expert, but that just does not seem right they could see a radical change from a week ago versus now.

If you read the article, it's basically a blog entry. Anyone here could have written it. We've all seen the same sources and have access to the same quotes.

My sources tell me that Romo is faking the injury. He was getting a little too uncomfortable with Dak showing promise as a rookie that he decided to pretend he was hurt in order to garner sympathy. Unfortunately, it backfired and now there is speculation on top of speculation, but I just wanted to put the truth out there to set the record straight.
