Ugh. I couldn't even get through the third sentence just in light of how painful the Deja Vu is from last year. After a break from the news, reading it over and over again reminds me of the hopes I not only had for opening day, but the entire season... Watching a healthy Tony Romo take such an improved team through the entire season and into the playoffs.

Get well soon, Tony.

After how many broken bones does tony getting a broken bone become not a "surprise" or "freak accident"???
Yes, that quote from Stephen Jones was the only issue I had.

"Freak accident". So your old QB with back problems breaks the pocket as he instinctually does at times and gets crunched.

Just a stroke of gosh darn bad luck, I guess.

Again, do these people mean 4-6 weeks form the time of the injury or 4-6 games missed?
I am so over counting the time or games missed.

I just want Prescott to deliver on the incredible promise he has shown and make this a silly debate.

That is the best scenario for this team right now.

The worst case is that he stinks and we start counting weeks.

Been there last year with both Romo and Bryant and it is very tiring.

It gets old being told we can make a run. Lets just try to win some ball games and go from there. We dont need to speak of runs or aspirations past that. Sure we all hope for it and everyone can see there is considerable talent on the offense and young guys with potential on the defense. But that doesn't entitle this team to make a run. A lot needs to come together for even an established team to do so. So how about for now we ease off all that talk until weve earned it. Place Romo on IR, and stop selling us on a run. We will wait and see what happens. Have we learned nothing from last year?
Aint no big thing.

There is not going to be any run unless this defense improves by 50%..

and guys that are expected to contribute on offense have career years..

I mean guys like Witten rediscover the fountain of youth and Dez stops with the injuries like he has been having for the last year..

guys like TWilliams have to not receed into the background..

Lee can't miss games and the secondary has to play aggressively because the DL may never be able to get to the QB.

A whole lot has to elevate for this team to succeed.

Unfortunately..although DAK will be better than Weeden or the others we had..

I don't see us having the team we had hoped for this year with Romo out again.

..the sum of the parts doesn't look good enough to me.

Hope I'm wrong but this team has a habit of shrinking from adversity.

It takes 6 weeks for a bone to calcify over and repair a break. So 6 weeks from the injury means he should be ready to go in week 5.

If they place him on IR, that means that something else is going on and its not just a simple fracture but possibly some surrounding soft tissue damage.

Obviously the risk we are talking about is Romo coming back too soon and having a second fracture to the weakened area, see last year against Carolina (a game Romo had no business playing in).

Bottom line is that if the team puts Romo on IR with a 8 week minimum, we know he is hurt more than they are letting on.

I agree, last year was exhausting. For me it would be much more significant if it means 2 games (4 weeks from the injury) vs 6-8 games. If it's 6-8 games then I can put Tony to rest and focus on Dak.

If Prescott is awful, I am not getting sucked into the week to week Romo watch.

I will just start real early preparing for the 2017 draft.

Didn't Bryan Broaddus say this could only be 4 to 6 week injury?

Time of injury. Bones take six weeks to heal.

This story is dumb. If Dallas is 1-3, he'll be there in week five.

I think they are referring to weeks from the time of injury.

I always assumed it was 4-10 games and that is also why the bye week has been a factor. If thats not the case I cant imagine why wed even think of short term IR. Hope yall are right though.

ARLINGTON -- Tony Romo will be on the Cowboys 53-man roster this weekend.
That doesn't mean he'll be there after Labor Day.

Club officials continue to wrestle with Romo's status. Multiple sources say the time frame to return from his L1 compression fracture is precariously close to the length of time he'd be sidelined if placed on injured reserve/designated for return.

Romo will undergo another MRI this weekend, nine to 10 days after the initial injury. Those results will dictate whether the Cowboys carry him on the active roster or place him on injured reserve, meaning the earliest he could return would be Nov. 6 against Cleveland.

This means the six-to-10 week time frame that surfaced in initial reports is more of an eight-to-10 week window.

"We're certainly getting our hands around it,'' executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "We need to make that decision obviously sometime later in the weekend.

"Whatever we do with him he needs to be on our 53 when we cut. You've got to have him through the 53-cut before you put him on designated return, if we wanted to consider that. But it may be we keep him on the roster.

"We'll just see.''

The Cowboys have a bye in Week 7 before returning to play Philadelphia on Oct. 30. If Romo can't play before the bye, how much sense does it make to carry him on the active roster for the first six weeks of the season? That would allow him to return just one game before he would if placed on injured reserve.

This is the dilemma the club faces. If the Cowboys aren't convinced Romo can return Oct. 9 against Cincinnati or that next week against Green Bay it will be difficult to justify carrying him on the active roster.

"He's very driven, driven to do what it takes to get back,'' Jones said. "We've really done a lot of research on this. I think this was s a freak accident.

"It's unfortunate for Tony to have some of these things, but I think the last thing in the world we're worried about with Tony is being fragile. He is undeterred and he really believes this team does have a different sort of mindset with him not being here and that we can win games and when he does get back we're ready to make a run.

"When Tony gets back the team will be ready for him.''

The question is whether Romo can return by mid-October or early November. That will determine how the Cowboys proceed.

Then again, you called the game where he got injured the "perfect night" and scolded everybody else to "calm down".

Yep..

Until the Cowboys say or do something I don't see him being out long.

Yeah, you said he'd be out there for Week One as I recall.

I'm still willing to make a bet on that.
