Next HC Micheal Singletary

I don't think he is going to be here. I wonder what next weeks coaching fad will bring.

but he is the rooney rule...we should have hired him when we interviewed him

Unless they count red headed step children as minorities these days ;).

I get your point though.

His attitude is just what the doctor ordered, however Jerry would never allow him to send one of his (Jerrys) players to the locker room .

I saw it and I thought it was awesome. He had me so pumped I wished I could go walk on and play for him.

oh yeah he is some motivator...got blown out at home by a one win Seattle team playing with a mediocre backup QB

gimme a break

Dude you're missing the point. He's cleaning house right now. They have no QB right now and probably won't win anytime soon...

I guess we'll see, but I would bet against him being a bigtime HC

there's a reason nobody ever wanted his guy for a coordinator

To eccentric for most, a real wild card, and very unpredictable...

You're joking right? Singletary will be one of the best coaches in the NFL before long, wait and see...

Not possible, Rooney rule would negate the contract. See St. Louis.

Incorrect.

The Rooney rule doesn't apply when an assistant coach has language in his contract guaranteeing him the starting job in case of an opening. See St. Louis when Mike Martz was hired in 2000.

The problem with Haslett's contract was that even though he had been an assistant coach, the contract was signed at a time when he was Interim Head Coach -- and there's no exception to the Rooney rule for interim coaches like there is for assistant coaches.

The situations are a little different. In St. Louis the Rooney rule does not apply to hiring Haslett as a interim coach. But it does apply before the Rams can make him a permanent Head Coach. Since Haslett didn't already have it stipulated in his contract about being the next head coach then he will have to go thru the interview process to which the Rooney Rule would apply.

If Garrett's contract that he just re-signed stipulated that he would be the next head coach when Wade was hired/fired then the Rooney rule would not apply. In Seattle, Jim Mora Jr. has it in his contract that he will be the next head coach when Holmgren retires at the end of the year. In this case, there is no violation of the Rooney Rule.

I like the Rooney Rule, but one change I would like to see is teams being able to promote from within without adhering to the Rooney Rule.

To many people think giving good interviews to the media, or yelling makes someone a good coach

dude is the HC of stuttering and uhms

pass, love all those more qualified to be a HC for Dallas - LOL

I would say I stand corrected to your first point, but the rule wasn't introduced until 2003.

I think I know where your going with this, but then the rule doesn't really make sense to me either, I don't think you can hire any head coach until all the boxes are checked... Didn't Dallas get verbally dinged for interviewing Singletary by phone? I see how Seattle got around it.

I am not trying to rehash the rule here, I know this board has been over it time and time again...

Didn't the 49ers just get "blowed up" by the mighty Seahawks. He has a lot to prove.

Correct me if I'm wrong: Don't good players make bad coaches. Landry was a great coach, but a so-so player. Jimmy Johnson? Not much as a player. Bill Cowher? Special teams player. Jeff Fisher? Holmgren? Gruden? Chuck Noll? Parcells?

Which formerly great players made excellent coaches? Dan Reeves? Mike Ditka? Anyone else?

Seattle got around it because Mora is Hispanic (and apparently stipulated it in his contract ;) ). I apologize to you all then, I wasn't aware of this exception to the rule, which makes it even more ridiculous.

Although, I do agree something needed to be done, and this was a step in the right direction, I think the NFL could do a better job of policing itself. A coaching / referee academy run by ex coaches and refs for example to help develop skills and techniques and turn out strong candidates for all coaching jobs (Not just pick and choose from the college ranks). I almost wish the NFL would develop a real farm league like baseball has. I would definitely be a follower.

Any way, thanks for the education :D.
