Next years replacement for Ellis

per PFT

Falcons DE Patrick Kerney is out for the season with a ruptured right pectoral muscle.

Replace one aging DE/OLB on injured reserve for another aging DE on injured reserve? Nah, I'd rather wait out Ellis' rehab.
Big difference in injuries though. Unless you rush the Qb on your hands.

We will never have a "dominant" pass rusher until we let the players not worry about the run first.

Well if we can't stop the run then a pass rush is not going to matter.

This notion that some seem to have that we are the only team in which the defensive players have to read run or pass then react accordingly is ridiculous.

Does anyone really believe teams consistently tell their defense to ignore the run and just play the pass? Other than in long yardage situations NOBODY does that.

That is why Indy is not having much of a pass rush this season. They can't stop the run and it is affecting how they get to the QB.

Plus I just don't think Zimmer tells his guys to forsake the pass rush to stop the run. That has been a myth for some time.

Adalius Thomas is a UFA after this year, and he's a natural SSLB in the 3-4. But given his sack numbers the past couple of years (he already has 8 sacks this year), he'll probably come with a steep price tag.

Excellent call, IR... Adalius Thomas would be a NICE fit in the Cowboys' defense...

I am in denial and think Ellis will be back next year.

Maybe they can draft Spencer from Purdue. He is a DE that could make the transition to OLB.

I like this train of thought. Fort Wayne Luers boy also.
If I remember correctly he is only 4 TFLs away from the big ten record.

Yes Yes Yes. If for some reason Carpenter doesn't work out and is better suited inside, then Adalius Thomas would be a great acquisition. He IMO, is one of the most versatile players in this league. If we can afford him, I'd say go for it.

we have cap

but we won't go after him w/ Bobby on the team

even if he stinks it up, he'll get another go around, or 2

I give you.....Patrick Kearney DE Atlanta Falcons. He's an unrestricted FA next year on a team that has no hope of getting to the big game before he retires. He can easily be converted as was Ellis to SLB. He's probably more nibble than Ellis.

Bobby Carpenter.....hello.......

Please tell me that we did not burn a 1st rounder on a backup linebacker:(

didnt we draft some guy last year for this position?

Bobby Carpenter isn't the kind of 3-4 LB that Parcells wants on that side, he needs a run stopper and a guy who can put his hand down and rush the pasher. I think the Cowboys will use Junior Glymph a little more than people think..
