Being an NFL owner has to be one of the lowest risk business ventures in the world. Once an owner buys a team, they could literally do nothing and make huge profits.

And Jerry bought the most popular team in pro football, not the Browns. Yes he increased the value of of his investment with some shrewd business moves. But it’s not like he bought a one-legged race horse.

The Cowboys played in their first SB nearly two decades before anyone had ever heard of Jerry Jones.

But he’s “doing a good job” and “nobody can do this job better than him”. It doesn’t register to him that his football team is a laughing stock on the field and tbh, making decisions in the front office.

Dallas has been the better team. But, the same was true about the Lions and Commanders over that same time span. Both of them have made the NFC Championship game the last two seasons, CC.

The last Head Coach was let go. I can't argue any as to his team getting to the playoffs, but losing. He was too make believe and undisciplined at the field levels.
 
That says it all. A new expansion team could be thought of, have ground broken for stadium, begin playing in four years and they would still make it to the NFC championship before the Cowboys.

The Panthers and jags have both literally done that. They both entered the league the same year the of the Cowboys last SB in ‘95.

Since then the panthers have been to 3 NFC championship games, winning two. The jags have been to two AFC championship games, losing both.

So the two expansion teams of the 90s have been to 5 conference championship games in the last 3 decades to our zero.

The Bears have been to 2 NFC championships and a Super Bowl since Dallas last appearance. They have already did it, twice.

Jacksonville Jaguars have been to 3 AFC championship games since Dallas last appearance. 1996, 1999 and 2018. Carolina Panthers have been to about 3 or 4 and a Super Bowl appearance. Both of these teams came into the league at the same time in the mid 90s.

Lowly teams like the Cardinals have been to multiple conference championships and even a Super Bowl. The Jets even went to back to back AFC title games.

The list is getting extremely short of who has a longer drought than Dallas in the entire NFL, not just the NFC, since we now are absolute last by double the amount of years of the next in line. Dallas fans could always hold out that they weren't dead last but in consecutive years, both Detroit and Washington ended theirs.

Off the top of my head, the only teams who have a longer drought in the AFC is the Dolphins and Browns. Am I missing anyone? Houston has never been in their expansion existence but they came into the league in 2001, so technically they have a shorter drought.

This franchise is an embarrassment. We see mediocre teams rise to get to the conference championship randomly in the NFC. That conference has seen no real dominant dynasties like the AFC has. No generational QBs ruling for nearing 3 decades in Brady, Manning, Mahomes. Couple of years, it was set on a platter for us to easily get there but we failed.

Yep, I don't know why people keep saying these sports owners are making huge risks and putting themselves on the line. They aren't, at all. In fact, quite the opposite. For one, these owners don't own 100% of the team. Plenty of silent investors putting up money. Another thing, they get the public to fund their massive stadiums, yet the public sees zero profits from these stadiums. They pay for it and turn around and pay for every single other thing like parking, concessions, tickets, merchandise. The portion that the public doesn't cover, the owners will either take out very lucrative loans or have sponsorships for the naming rights that easily make up the difference.

These leagues are designed that no team fails and owners rake in as much as they can. They all look out for each other. Especially the NFL, where they print their own money. When Jerry bought the team, NFL was very well established and Dallas was one of the most popular teams. Nothing to worry about on his end.

That was the change point from a single coach to multiple coaches. That also was when the political foundation of the NFL changes as well from the introduction of the AFL and the influence of Jerry Jones, the financial standing of both teams and players started to expand as well as be changed. That was a transition point for the Cowboys and the NFL itself.
